Consensys ‘s blockchain infrastructure protocol, Infura, has announced a significant enhancement to its Decentralized Infrastructure Network (DIN) through a partnership with Ethereum’s EigenLayer restaking protocol.

DIN, a decentralized “app store” for blockchain APIs, provides developers with access to Ethereum and other leading networks, including Blast, Mantle, Starknet, ZKsync, BNB Smart Chain, and Scroll. The partnership leverages EigenLayer’s Actively Validated Service (AVS) framework to establish a bigger decentralized marketplace for blockchain infrastructure services.

EigenLayer’s unique restaking protocol allows staked Ether holders to earn additional rewards by validating off-chain operations. The AVS framework builds on this and allows protocols to set up custom validation mechanisms for offchain operations. This setup provides a secure entry point for developers without requiring token launches or separate staking models.

Tom Hay, head of product for DIN at Infura, explained that

“By leaning on Ethereum’s economic security through EigenLayer, we continue to build on DIN’s steady progress creating a Web3 permissionless marketplace for infrastructure services.”

This integration is expected to offer several advantages, including reduced development costs, improved service reliability, and enhanced accessibility for developers across Web3 platforms.

Sreeram Kannan, founder of EigenLayer, noted that this approach

“enables permissionless infrastructure provision, scaling the marketplace while simultaneously increasing reliability and reducing costs.”

In a related development, Consensys’ Layer 2 network, Linea, has launched the Linea Association, an independent Swiss nonprofit, to oversee the growth and governance of its zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) rollup project.

The association’s primary goal is to foster the development of a fast, secure, and affordable Linea Mainnet, fully compatible with Ethereum Layer 1. The initiative will introduce the LINEA token by Q1 2025, empowering token holders to participate in decentralized governance and shape the network’s future.
