Key takeaways

  • Tracked exchange wallets lost 133 million XRP in seven days
  • Ripple released one billion XRP from escrow November 1
  • Exchange withdrawals and escrow releases do not confirm selling

XRP balances across cryptocurrency exchange wallets fell by 133 million tokens in the week ending October 31, just hours before Ripple completed its scheduled release of 1 billion XRP, worth approximately $1.25 billion, from escrow.

According to XRP Insights' October 31 supply report, publicly attributed exchange wallets held 22.48 billion XRP, down from approximately 22.61 billion a week earlier. Meanwhile, two Ripple-controlled escrow contracts each released 500 million XRP at 00:00 UTC on November 1.

XRP Exchange Balances Fall Before November Release

The 133 million XRP decline represents approximately 0.6% of the balances held across tracked exchange wallets during the seven-day period.

Importantly, the dataset includes publicly labeled custody addresses, including cold-storage wallets. Transfers to unidentified addresses or internal exchange reorganizations can affect the figures without representing genuine investor withdrawals.

The latest readings also contrast with earlier exchange reserve increases, when nearly 84 million XRP entered tracked wallets over three days in mid-October.

At the time, Binance accounted for much of the increase, adding to concerns about potential selling pressure. However, a separate whale-flow analysis identified substantial withdrawals from Binance and Upbit earlier in the month.

These shifting patterns demonstrate why exchange balances should be analyzed over multiple periods rather than interpreted as a direct measure of investor sentiment.

Ripple Releases 1 Billion XRP as Escrow Holdings Decline

Ripple completed two escrow-finishing transactions shortly after midnight UTC on November 1, releasing 500 million XRP each.

The transactions reduced the company's locked XRP balance from approximately 31.4 billion to 30.4 billion tokens. As of 10:50 UTC, no portion of November's release had been returned to new escrow contracts, according to on-chain tracking cited by TokenPost.

The latest movement follows an unusual October, when two Ripple wallets retained 1 billion previously unlocked XRP through October 29 without outgoing payments.

That raised the possibility that the November release could temporarily increase the amount of XRP available across those company-controlled addresses.

However, Ripple's monthly escrow mechanism does not automatically introduce the entire unlocked amount into trading markets.

In both September and October, Ripple returned approximately 700 million XRP to new escrow contracts, leaving a net reduction of roughly 300 million tokens in locked supply during each cycle.

The distinction was also visible when a previous 1 billion XRP unlock failed to trigger the immediate selloff some traders expected.

What Do the Movements Mean for XRP Price?

XRP traded near $1.25 on November 1 after losing approximately 18% during October, leaving investors sensitive to developments affecting token availability.

Earlier data showed 6.05 billion XRP in gross exchange deposits over a separate 30-day period, illustrating how substantial transaction activity can coexist with declining balances across selected wallets.

Institutional demand has also provided limited price protection. U.S. spot XRP ETFs attracted approximately $1.81 billion in cumulative inflows, but a recent cost-basis analysis estimated nearly $489 million in unrealized losses.
