Crypto markets could be in for a major liquidity event if @realDonaldTrump and the Republicans hold both chambers of Congress after the 2026 midterms. That is the view of @ag_dwf, managing partner at @DWFLabs, who argues the math strongly favours a repeat of the 2021 bull run.
The "Trump Dividend" Proposal
At the Republican Midterm Convention in Dallas in September, Trump promised to "issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000, very much like a successful company will do a cash distribution to its shareholders," contingent on Republicans winning both the House and the Senate. With roughly 240 million adult citizens in the US, the proposal carries an estimated price tag of approximately $1.2 trillion.Trump said the money would have to be spent in the US, though he did not offer details on how that restriction would be enforced.
The proposal has attracted significant criticism. "President Trump's proposal to send $5,000 to every American adult would cost $1.2 trillion. This is impractical, imprudent and impossible to imagine actually happening," said David Wessel, director of the Hutchins Center at the Brookings Institution.Erica York, a senior economist at the Tax Foundation, has said that Trump's $5,000 checks would "spend all the revenue that the new tariffs are projected to bring in over a decade."
What It Could Mean for Crypto
On October 4, 2026, Andrei Grachev of DWF Labs told MarsBit that a potential $5,000 stimulus plan under Trump could trigger a crypto market surge similar to 2021.Grachev said the payments would equal 150% of the "helicopter money" distributed during the COVID-19 pandemic, and that a meaningful share of those funds would find their way into digital assets. The DWF Labs executive predicted that recipients would likely allocate a portion of these funds to digital assets, potentially recreating market conditions similar to the 2021 bull run.
Grachev also advised investors to secure profits, as a downturn may follow any such surge. The caution is worth noting: the 2021 cycle ended in a sharp reversal that wiped out trillions in market value across the broader crypto sector.
Whether or not the dividend ever materialises, the debate underscores how closely crypto markets now track US political developments, with large-scale fiscal policy increasingly seen as a potential on-ramp for fresh retail capital into digital assets.
