The Clarity Act divides Washington. Charles Schwab sees it as a historic catalyst for cryptos, while the Senate dithers. Between financial innovation and political deadlocks, this project could redefine the market… or leave it in the dark. A battle to follow closely.

In Brief

  • Charles Schwab describes the Clarity Act as a “fundamental catalyst” for structuring the crypto market.
  • The Senate is divided: John Thune questions the timing, while Patrick Witt (White House) pushes for an August vote.
  • Crypto lobbies (CCI, Blockchain Association, The Digital Chamber) are urging the Senate to pass the bill to avoid regulatory lag.

Charles Schwab and the Clarity Act: a Catalyst for Cryptos

Charles Schwab, a giant in asset management, described the Clarity Act as a fundamental catalyst for the crypto market. For him, this bill which aims to split supervision between the SEC and the CFTC, is essential to structure a rapidly growing sector. Schwab even launched Schwab Crypto in 2026, allowing his clients to buy bitcoin and other digital assets, proof of his commitment. Yet, in Washington, the urgency is not shared.

Indeed, John Thune, Republican leader in the Senate, believes the text probably won’t be voted on before the summer break. This, despite efforts from Patrick Witt (White House crypto advisor), who bets on adoption as early as the first week of August. The disagreements primarily concern ethical provisions (limiting crypto holdings for officials) and technical details, such as the treatment of stablecoins.

Crypto Lobbyists Band Together: an Open Letter to Hasten the Clarity Act’s Passage

Charles Schwab is not the only one supporting the Clarity Act. Indeed, the three main digital asset advocacy groups in the United States, including the Crypto Council for Innovation (CCI), the Blockchain Association, and The Digital Chamber, have officially called on the Senate to vote for the Clarity Act.

In an open letter addressed to Democratic and Republican leaders, they emphasize that:

For the United States to remain leaders in financial innovation, there is no substitute for structured and lasting legislation.

The bill proposes a comprehensive federal framework for digital asset markets, replacing fragmented state regulations with robust safeguards. Among the flagship measures are:

  • The obligation for crypto intermediaries to segregate client assets;
  • Closing a legal loophole by assigning the CFTC supervision of the digital commodities market.

The Clarity Act could revolutionize cryptos… if Washington decides. Between support from giants like Charles Schwab and intense lobbying, the project progresses, but slowly. And you, do you think the United States can still catch up on crypto regulation?
