@Algorand has passed 500,000 post-quantum signed transactions on its mainnet, marking a concrete milestone in the network's multi-year push to harden its infrastructure against future quantum computing threats.
Two sources, one milestone
The count draws from two distinct categories. The first is State Proofs, which Algorand has signed with the lattice-based Falcon scheme since August 2022 to protect the historical integrity of the chain. The second is a newer set of transactions from native post-quantum accounts, which went live more recently. Together, they pushed the total past the 500,000 mark.
Native Falcon-1024 accounts arrived on mainnet as of August 2026 after reaching the necessary network approval threshold in the Algorand v5.0.0 upgrade, with support from SDKs, AlgoKit, and Pera Wallet. The upgrade, which activated on August 22, 2026, is described as the network's largest and introduces native post-quantum accounts alongside smarter, usage-based fees.
Falcon-1024 accounts no longer require a LogicSig wrapper, building on State Proofs deployed in 2022, the first quantum-resilient mainnet transaction in 2025, and the post-quantum roadmap Algorand Foundation published in June 2026.
What comes next on the roadmap
A key upcoming enhancement is multi-signature accounts, which will no longer be bound to a single scheme. Instead, an access-control policy called an m-of-n quorum will be able to mix classical, pure-Falcon, and hybrid keys across its participants.
The Q3 2026 protocol release will also introduce network-level support for multiple concurrent signature schemes, allowing the protocol to continue supporting traditional Ed25519 accounts while incorporating additional signature schemes without requiring further structural overhauls. The broader roadmap targets multisig and consensus-level quantum resilience by the end of 2027.
Google researchers noted in their March 2026 paper that quantum computers may require fewer resources than previously estimated to crack the cryptography protecting blockchain networks, adding urgency to the transition. Algorand's early positioning in this space has drawn attention, with Google Quantum AI recognising the project as an "early mover" in post-quantum cryptography.
