Every fall, the world’s biggest money managers publish return forecasts that pension funds, endowments and financial advisers use to decide what goes in a portfolio.
Being included in one of those tables is a quiet sign that an asset is being taken seriously.
Bitcoin made it into one this year. Now Grayscale is laying out why the numbers behind that matter.
In a Nov. 4 note, Zach Pandl, Head of Research at Grayscale, called Bitcoin’s inclusion in JPMorgan Asset Management’s 2027 Long-Term Capital Market Assumptions “another milestone in its evolution as an institutional asset.”
Grayscale is a crypto asset manager.

The report is JPMorgan’s 31st annual edition, and it projects returns over the next 10 to 15 years.
TheStreet Roundtable reported last month that the report gives Bitcoin a base-case return of about 10% a year, the highest of any asset in the forecast. Pandl’s note looks past that figure.
Bitcoin’s weak link to stocks
Pandl focuses on correlation, which measures how closely two assets move together. JPMorgan estimates Bitcoin’s correlation with U.S. large-cap stocks at 33%.
That is lower than international equities, corporate bonds and hedge funds, according to a Grayscale chart based on the report.
High expected returns paired with a weak link to stocks are hard to find, Pandl wrote.
He said the combination makes Bitcoin “a potentially attractive portfolio diversifier.” A diversifier is an asset that can cushion a portfolio when stocks fall.
JPMorgan keeps its distance
The forecast comes with caveats. JPMorgan puts Bitcoin’s expected volatility at 55%, and the same chart shows gold with an even lower correlation to stocks.
The firm also says it does “not yet include bitcoin in our main covariance matrices.” Those matrices are the models it uses to build multi-asset portfolios.
Pandl acknowledged the uncertainty too. He said any diversification benefit will depend on how Bitcoin’s returns and its relationships with other assets evolve.
