XRP has remained confined in a narrow trading range for weeks, according to cryptocurrency analyst ChartNerd, who outlined what he expects in the short term for the digital asset. XRP, the native token for the Ripple network, is hovering between two major technical levels without a clear break in either direction.

XRP consolidates around key moving averages

ChartNerd pointed out that XRP, currently priced near $1.46, is compressing between its 20-week and 50-week exponential moving averages (EMAs). On his technical chart, the 50-week EMA sits at approximately $1.99. The analyst underscored the importance of this level, describing it as the primary threshold for determining XRP’s short-term momentum.

He emphasized that XRP’s price action has not yet provided a decisive signal to settle the ongoing standoff between bullish and bearish perspectives. The persistent consolidation suggests a buildup toward either a breakout or a breakdown.

Context is important for $XRP in the short term. ChartNerd expects that if bulls reclaim the 50-week EMA and push price into the $1.80 to $2 zone, this could confirm a local top before any deeper correction. However, he has consistently tracked both bullish and bearish possibilities while waiting for the range to resolve.

The bullish scenario: reclaiming the 50-week EMA

In his bullish scenario, ChartNerd projects that if XRP moves above the 50-week EMA, the asset could rally towards the $1.80 to $2 range. That zone served as a strong support in early 2025, though XRP failed to hold it and has yet to retest it as resistance since the decline.

Reaching this target would represent a short-term top, with the analyst suggesting it would “signify a stronger potential of this bottom being the low.” The chart indicates this potential with an upward arrow, illustrating the positive outcome if buyers manage to steer the price above the weekly average.

The bearish scenario: losing the 20-week EMA

Conversely, if XRP closes below the 20-week EMA for consecutive weeks, ChartNerd anticipates a sharper move to the downside. His downside target in this case is around $0.98, with the risk of revisiting the current cycle’s low. ChartNerd noted that a similar pattern unfolded earlier in 2025, where XRP compressed in a comparable range before retreating by approximately 25%.

The potential for a repeat of that decline is reflected on the analyst’s chart, which marks a downside arrow towards the red zone near the 20-week EMA, highlighting a possible drop of about 24.7% if bearish momentum takes hold.

Mini dictionary: EMA (Exponential Moving Average), a technical analysis indicator that assigns more weight to recent data points and is commonly used by traders to identify support and resistance levels in price trends.

Scenario Key Level Potential Target Bullish Above 50-week EMA ($1.99) $1.80–$2 (local top) Bearish Below 20-week EMA $0.98 (downside target)

Critical level for XRP’s short-term trend

ChartNerd summarized his short-term thesis with a focus on the weekly moving averages. He described the 50-week EMA as “the gatekeeper,” indicating that a break above it could bring bullish targets between $1.80 and $2 into play. On the other hand, a loss of the 20-week EMA would put the $0.98 support at risk, with bears aiming for a new cycle low.

XRP continues to trade between these decisive levels, and the market remains poised for an eventual breakout or further retracement depending on which side wins control.

“We’re back in that range, waiting for the decisive break,” ChartNerd remarked, referring to the resemblance to previous setups that led to larger moves.
