Anthropic sent senior leaders to Washington on Sunday to seek a deal with President Trump's administration, days after a federal order forced its flagship AI models offline.
Claude Models Pulled
A person close to the company toldAxios the talks opened Sunday. They began hours after a White House directive forced two Claude models offline, and Friday's export order barred non-U.S. nationals from using either model.
Claude Fable 5 and Claude Mythos 5 reached paying users only Tuesday. Amazon and five other companies told the White House on Thursday and Friday they had bypassed the safeguards, Axios reported. Semafor added a China-linked group may have reached a Mythos-class model, despite Anthropic's ban on Chinese access.
The order arrived by letter Friday evening, hours after the White House phoned the company, branded the models a "national security threat," and gave it 90 minutes to act. Officials remain frustrated, Axios reported Sunday, saying Anthropic has not engaged seriously.
The scrutiny traces back to April, when Anthropic unveiled Claude Mythos Preview and declined to release it over cybersecurity risks. Fable 5 and Mythos 5 were tamed versions built on the same core technology, fitted with heavy guardrails. They survived as public products for barely four days.
