Apple stock moved higher Wednesday as investors digested reports that the company is developing enterprise AI servers powered by its own chips.

AAPL was recently trading around $334.77, up about 1.03%, after reaching an intraday high near $335.48. The previous close was $331.34.

The move comes as Apple reportedly considers returning to the commercial server market with hardware designed for AI workloads. Reuters, citing The Information, said the company has discussed using Nvidia's NVLink Fusion networking technology alongside its own future M8 Ultra processors.

Apple Silicon Is Heading for AI Servers

Apple has spent years replacing outside processors with its own silicon across products like the Mac. Now that strategy could expand into enterprise data centers.

The reported servers could feature two or four M8 Ultra processors and focus primarily on AI inference. The project isn't expected before 2029 and could still change or be canceled.

The development follows Apple's broader semiconductor push. Apple partnership helped send Intel shares up 9% as the company expanded its involvement in U.S.-made chips.

Why AAPL Investors Care

AI servers would give Apple exposure to a market far beyond iPhones and Macs.

Companies are spending heavily on data centers as AI inference expands, and Apple could potentially use its expertise in energy-efficient custom silicon to compete for part of that demand.

It also adds another AI angle to a stock that has already performed strongly in 2026. We recently covered how AAPL jumped 3% as Apple overtook Nvidia in market value.

Apple shares are now up roughly 23% year-to-date, according to current market data.

Apple Taking on Nvidia?

Not quite.

Apple is reportedly considering Nvidia technology inside the server architecture, while using its own processors for compute. That could make Nvidia both a supplier and an indirect competitor in parts of the AI infrastructure market.

For AAPL, the immediate stock reaction is modest about 1% higher and the server project remains years away.

But strategically, the story is bigger: Apple silicon conquered the Mac, and Apple is now exploring whether the same approach can work inside the AI data center.
