The @Aptos Layer-1 network has now burned 1.9 million $APT tokens since its mainnet launch, according to its latest supply update. At current prices, the burned tokens are worth only about $1.58 million.

The more notable figure is the recent pace. Around 174.1K $APT, or nearly 10% of the total burned to date, was destroyed in the last 30 days. That works out to an annualised rate of about 2.1 million $APT.

How the Aptos burn works

On Aptos, every transaction fee is burned, and none of it goes to validators as revenue or sits in a treasury. The mechanism ties network activity directly to token supply: more usage means more $APT removed from circulation.

The design was strengthened this year. Aptos approved proposal AIP-140, a tokenomics overhaul that introduces a hard supply cap of 2.1 billion APT, cuts annual staking rewards nearly in half, and raises gas fees by a factor of ten.Annual staking rewards fell from 5.19% to 2.6%.One hundred percent of collected gas is burned.

The recent burn rate also compares favourably with earlier readings. Aptos had burned a cumulative 1.4 million APT by mid-2026, and a later update showed 1.7 million burned since mainnet with an annualised burn rate of 1.8 million tokens. The latest 2.1 million annualised figure suggests the pace is still rising.

Emissions still outweigh burns

The burn is only one side of the supply equation. Staking emissions, the new APT paid to validators and delegators, run at approximately 1.5 million APT per month. As of Oct. 8, 2026, the staking reward rate was 2.6% and monthly emissions were 1.5 million APT. Against roughly 174,000 $APT burned over the same 30-day window, net supply is still growing.

Other analysts have made the same point. ETHNews noted that Aptos has cut the reward rate roughly in half, but burns remain small. AIP-140's stated aim of pushing APT toward a shrinking supply has not yet been met.

On the market side, Coinbase lists the APT price at $0.8015 as of October 18, 2026, and the token's all-time high of $20.39 was reached on January 26, 2023, about 96% above today's price. That price gap explains why the dollar value of the cumulative burn remains modest despite the sizeable token count.

For $APT holders, the key question is whether network usage grows enough for fee burns to eventually match or exceed staking emissions. For now, the burn rate is accelerating, but it remains a small fraction of new issuance.
