BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes, in his Bitcoin assessment today, once again turned his attention to dollar liquidity. According to Hayes, for sustained market strength, the Fed or banks need to start expanding their balance sheets.
Sharing a graph showing dollar liquidity via X, Hayes said he expects Bitcoin to remain weak until this process begins.
The framework followed by Hayes revolves around the amount of money in the financial system and the liquidity available to access risky assets. In this approach, the Fed’s asset purchases and banks’ credit expansion stand out as two important channels for Bitcoin.
The latest balance sheet data released by the Fed also provides concrete figures in the liquidity debate. The table for October 28 shows total assets at approximately $6.746 trillion, a decrease of about $8 billion compared to the previous week.
During the same period, the weekly average of reserves held by banks at the Fed decreased by approximately $68.8 billion, falling to $2.894 trillion.
