Atlas (@ATLAS_DEFI_) has opened its Beta Public Mainnet, bringing a perpetual futures exchange to Cardano (@Cardano) $ADA after months of development and testing. The launch adds leveraged trading to the network's decentralised finance (DeFi) ecosystem, letting users take long or short positions on supported crypto assets.
Traders on Atlas can use market or limit orders and set their own take-profit and stop-loss levels. Unlike a traditional order book exchange, the decentralised exchange (DEX) relies on a unified liquidity pool that acts as the counterparty to trades.
Atlas describes itself as a Cardano-native, stablecoin-based perpetual DEX. Its website says the protocol combines leveraged trading, vault liquidity and ATLAS staking.Users can open leveraged long and short positions on major assets using whitelisted stablecoin collateral.
The platform also lets users deposit stablecoins into its Vault to earn fees generated by trading activity. Liquidity providers therefore take the other side of trader positions, and their returns depend on the volume the platform attracts.
Perpetual futures differ from standard futures contracts in that they have no fixed expiry date. According to broker Axi, they are leveraged derivatives that track the price of ADA without giving the trader ownership of the asset, and they allow both long and short positions.Axi also advises traders to monitor leverage, margin requirements and funding costs.
Cardano's Growing Derivatives Market
Atlas is not the first perpetuals venue on Cardano. Strike Finance launched an on-chain perpetual futures platform on the network in May 2025, offering leveraged ADA/USD trading with up to 10x leverage.
Atlas has moved through several stages on the way to this release. Earlier material pointed to a public testnet scheduled for 19 May 2026, featuring on-chain perpetual trading, stablecoin collateral, long and short positions and unified vault liquidity.TokenPost reported that Atlas launched its decentralised perpetual futures exchange on Cardano on Nov. 2, allowing traders to use stablecoins as collateral for leveraged positions.
Broader market context is available, though it does not measure Atlas itself. The 12 largest decentralised exchanges offering perpetual futures recorded $1.7 trillion in notional volume in Q2 2026, down from $2 trillion in Q1, but those figures do not establish trading activity on Atlas or Cardano.
As a beta release, the platform's early performance, liquidity depth and user uptake remain to be seen. Leveraged products carry a high risk of loss, and users should review the platform's terms and risks before trading.
