In another big move in brining capital markets on-chain, Backpack is partnering with South Korean financial services firm SK Securities to expand international access to Korean-listed equities.
Under the agreement, eligible non-resident foreign investors will be able to access South Korean stock trading through the Backpack app. The partnership brings together SK Securities’ experience in Korea’s capital markets and Backpack’s global user base, blockchain infrastructure and digital asset custody capabilities.
The companies said the collaboration will cover different stages of the securities lifecycle, including structuring, issuance, custody and distribution to international investors, subject to applicable laws and regulations.
What is the SK Securities BackPack Partnership About?
SK Securities is a South Korean financial investment company established in 1955 and listed on the Korea Exchange under the ticker 001510. Its business includes securities brokerage, investment dealing, underwriting, investment banking and wealth management.
Its role is particularly important because it brings the traditional financial-market expertise needed to connect international investors with South Korean-listed companies.
Under the partnership deal, SK Securities will contribute its capabilities in underwriting, issuance and securities distribution. Backpack, meanwhile, will provide the technology infrastructure and international distribution network.
In practical terms, the partnership is intended to make it easier for eligible foreign investors to access Korean equities through Backpack. With this, they won’t be required to navigate the local market independently.
The initial focus is on Korean-listed stocks. The companies have also identified tokenized securities and real-world assets (RWAs) as potential areas for further collaboration, although they have not announced specific tokenized Korean stocks or a launch date for the new trading service.
Backpack’s Push Into Traditional Finance
The SK Securities agreement also builds on Backpack’s broader efforts to bring traditional financial products closer to its global crypto-native user base.
In July 2026, Backpack introduced exposure to SK Hynix through its Nasdaq-listed American Depositary Receipt (ADR), alongside a Solana-based token called $SKHY. The ADR represents an interest in the South Korean semiconductor company’s shares. The token provides blockchain-based exposure to the underlying ADR through Backpack Securities.
The latest partnership takes a different direction by targeting Korean-listed equities themselves. It isn’t relying only on securities listed in the United States to provide exposure to South Korean companies.
Backpack said it serves users across more than 150 countries and regions and has processed over $450 billion in trading volume across its business.
Commenting on the partnership, Backpack Co-Founder and CEO Armani Ferrante said: “Korean equities have long been out of reach for most global investors and we’re changing that. Our partnership with SK Securities reflects Backpack’s core belief that the future of finance is built where regulatory rigor meets crypto-native innovation.”
“We are building the single globally regulated financial marketplace that will break the mold when it comes to who has access to what financial products, and when. We look forward to bringing Korean equities to our users worldwide and continuing to deliver an exceptional product experience.”
However, the south korean stock market isn’t really bullish. The KOSPI Index has crashed over 40% in the last 4 months as the AI bubble seems to be popping.
