Apple, Alphabet and Coca-Cola now account for 41.7% of Berkshire Hathaway's $357 billion stock portfolio, and CEO Greg Abel has grown the Alphabet stake sixfold this year.

Key Points:

  • Three companies that use AI in their core businesses hold 41.7% of Berkshire's $357 billion equity portfolio.
  • Apple remains the largest position at 21.7%, ahead of Alphabet at 10.2% and Coca-Cola at 9.8%.
  • Abel has expanded the Alphabet holding sixfold during 2026, his first year as CEO.

The breakdown appeared Wednesday in a review of Berkshire's largest positions. Apple leads at 21.7% of the portfolio, while Alphabet accounts for 10.2% and Coca-Cola for 9.8%, and each company uses AI in its main operations.

More than 2.5 billion Apple devices are active worldwide, and Apple Intelligence now summarizes messages, drafts replies and ranks notifications for their owners. The suite also includes an upgraded Siri. Berkshire's latest 13F filing lists about 227.9 million Apple shares, valued near $65.95 billion at the end of June.

Alphabet's Google Cloud revenue jumped 82% year over year in the second quarter, and the unit carries a $514 billion backlog from customers waiting for new data centers. Berkshire, which first bought the stock in the third quarter of 2025, now owns 78.8 million Class A and 27.2 million Class C shares worth about $36.3 billion.

Coca-Cola applies AI to marketing, supply chains and factory work, backed by a five-year, $1.1 billion commitment to Microsoft's Azure cloud signed in 2024. Warren Buffett bought its 400 million shares between 1988 and 1994 for $1.3 billion, a stake now worth $35.1 billion. It will pay Berkshire $848 million in dividends this year.

Greg Abel Alphabet Bet

In a Sept. 2 television interview, Abel said Berkshire's own companies gave it a close view of how AI pays off, and that it saw Google as "a significant player." Analyst Anthony Di Pizio argued that Apple's huge base of active devices puts it in a strong spot in consumer AI, while many rivals chase corporate clients.

Buffett, by contrast, never chased hot tech names.

Abel moved quickly on Alphabet after taking over as CEO on Jan. 1. Berkshire expanded the position by 224% in the first quarter, then added 48.1 million shares in the second, lifting its midyear value to $37.8 billion. Buffett, who said in July that he started the Alphabet investment, stepped down as chairman on Sept. 18, and his son Howard Buffett took over the role.
