Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) warned that artificial intelligence could pose serious security risks in the cryptocurrency sector without directly breaking Bitcoin’s (BTC) encryption system.
Speaking via the social media platform X, Zhao stated that AI-powered cyberattacks are causing increasing concern for the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
CZ stated that many people are concerned that artificial intelligence could target the encryption infrastructure of cryptocurrency systems, but the encryption methods used in internet and banking systems may be relatively more vulnerable.
According to Zhao, AI doesn’t need to directly crack Bitcoin’s underlying encryption mechanism to cause significant damage to crypto assets.
The Binance co-founder specifically pointed out that past data breaches could be used in AI-powered attacks.
CZ emphasized that previously compromised personal and corporate information alone can increase the risks posed by phishing and social engineering attacks.
In these types of attacks, existing information can be exploited to gain or deceive users. Artificial intelligence technologies can make it easier for attackers to create more convincing and targeted fraudulent attempts.
Zhao’s statements reveal that cryptocurrency security is not solely dependent on the encryption technologies used in the blockchain infrastructure.
