Binance Founder CZ Warned Users About the Recent Hacking Incident

Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) warned that a data breach at hardware wallet manufacturer Trezor’s logistics service provider could pose serious security risks for cryptocurrency investors.

CZ stated that approximately 13,700 customers were affected by the data breach at Trezor’s shipping provider. It was reported that around 11,700 users had their personal information, including names, email addresses, phone numbers, and delivery addresses, exposed.

CZ, while emphasizing that Trezor’s own systems or users’ private keys were not compromised, pointed out that the leaked data created a different risk. According to CZ, the fact that individuals’ identity and physical address information can be directly linked to information about their cryptocurrency ownership poses a significant risk in terms of phishing attacks, social engineering attempts, and even physical security threats.

CZ stated in his post, “Not a very good month for hardware wallets,” adding that the incident once again demonstrated that hardware wallets and software-based self-custody wallets have different security profiles.

Trezor stated that the incident did not directly affect the company’s wallet infrastructure or user funds. However, users whose personal data was leaked may need to be more cautious against fake emails, phone calls, and targeted scam attempts impersonating Trezor or other crypto companies.
