Binance will start moving crypto out of user Funding Accounts and into Spot Accounts in phases beginning September 29, 2026, a process the exchange expects to finish by January 2027. Once it’s done, the Funding Account will be officially renamed the “Stocks Account,” and from that point on it will handle only one thing, the settlement of stock and stock option trades.
Starting September 29, users will no longer be able to deposit crypto on-chain into their Funding Account. The renamed Stocks Account will only hold six settlement currencies, US dollars, USDC, USDT, USD1, U, and BNB, all tied to stock trading. Every other crypto asset, including deposits and withdrawals, will run through the Spot Account instead. Binance is giving users a “One Click Migration” tool to move their balances over themselves ahead of time, and anything left behind will be moved automatically, in batches, once January 2027 arrives, with the total value of what users hold staying the same either way.
Why is Binance doing this now?
In June, Binance opened up trading on more than 7,000 US stocks and ETFs to eligible users, letting people buy fractional shares for as little as 5 dollars with no trading fee. Days later, it launched bStocks, tokenized versions of stocks like Tesla, Nvidia and Circle that trade around the clock and can be held in a crypto wallet. Binance co CEO Richard Teng called it a way to give tokenization the chance to “reshape financial markets,” and co CEO Yi He framed the whole push as building toward Binance’s “next 3 billion users.”
That stock business needed its own home. Up to now, the Funding Account was a general purpose wallet, mostly used for peer to peer trading and holding spare balances, with no clean line between it and everything else on the platform.
One analyst put the bigger strategy in plain terms when the stock trading launched, telling Decrypt that big exchanges like Binance are getting into stocks because they don’t want users leaving the app to trade elsewhere, and want to hold onto user balances instead of losing them to outside brokers. This migration is the basic setup that keeps stock money and crypto money in separate accounts, so they don’t get mixed up.
What users should actually watch out for?
Binance has moved user wallets around before, and it mostly went fine. In 2023, it retired a batch of old deposit addresses and asked users to generate new ones, rolling the change out in phases and giving people a manual tool to recover anything sent to an old address.
That history suggests the migration itself may not be the main concern. Users should watch out for what they have connected to their Funding Accounts. Bots, API setups, saved wallet addresses and automated transfers could all be affected if they are not updated before the changes take effect.
Reinforce said that after September 29, 2026, Funding Accounts will stop accepting on-chain deposits. Anyone routing staking or API flows through a Funding Account needs to migrate before that date rather than wait for the January account rename.
Other users are looking at what the changes mean in practice. Lisa asked,
“Who loses if the exchange part works as described?”
Evening, meanwhile, said the Spot Account migration sounds like a smoother setup already.
For users, the practical advice is to move your funds over yourself using the One Click tool before January if you want full control over the timing, rather than waiting for the automatic batch migration. Double check any bots, saved addresses, or automated transfers pointed at your Funding Account, since on-chain deposits there stop working on September 29. And if you hold any of Binance’s stock products, get familiar with the new six currency settlement list now, since trying to fund a stock trade with the wrong asset after the switch will be the most common mistake people make.
