CZ Posts Rough Math on How the Exchange Can Close the Gap
Binance hack news took a new turn on October 30, 2026. Changpeng Zhao (CZ) posted a quick sum on X showing how the exchange plans to cover the loss.
He listed a $6.x billion theft, $3B frozen, and a $1.x billion SAFU fund. That leaves a gap of about $2B. He then pointed to the Binance SpaceX investment, saying the company holds $1.x billion in SPCX alone. He called the remaining gap painful but manageable.

The post on X went live on October 30, 2026. CZ wrote it in reply to a user who asked why SPCX matters during the incident.

How the $6.3B Theft Happened and What Was Frozen
According to the official security incident update, the breach started with a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop. That gave the attacker access to a service container and let them submit unauthorized withdrawals. The exchange found no evidence of a private key leak.
Later updates said the attack was more complex than one weak point. More breach points were found, and outflows stopped once the withdrawal service was paused.
Blockchain firm TRM Labs tracked about $6.3B to $6.4B moving across chains from around 20:05 UTC on October 29, 2026. About $3B has since been frozen with partners, including Tether and Circle.
The Arbitrum Security Council also froze assets linked to the exploit.
Binance SpaceX Investment: Where the $1.x Billion Comes From
The Binance SpaceX investment traces back to a $500M stake tied to Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover, according to CZ. Reports say later SpaceX-related deals and the public listing under the SPCX ticker lifted its value. The founder now puts it above $1 billion.
These are company-level holdings. They differ from tokenized stocks such as bStocks, which track real shares on-chain. The post refers to the corporate stake, not a token product.
Musk Reacts, Critics Cite FTX, and CZ Pushes Back Online
The thread moved fast. One One X user, 0xngmi. estimated that with USDT and USDC frozen, the loss is near $1B, or 0.69% of the $144B the exchange holds in custody. Zhao replied that the loss might be a bit higher, but it will be covered.

That estimate sits below the official figures. Using them, $6.3B minus $3B leaves about $3.3B before SAFU is applied.
Elon Musk answered with a single emoji. Zhao then asked Musk to stop trolling, saying the SPCX shares from the $500M Twitter investment are worth more than $1 billion.

Another user posted a screenshot of an old FTX claim that it had enough to cover all client holdings.
What Happens Next for Withdrawals and SAFU Cover
Withdrawals remain paused for a security upgrade, and the exchange expects them back in about 45 to 48 hours. Deposits continue. An updated Proof of Reserves and a technical post-mortem are promised after verification.
The SAFU fund holds roughly 15,000 BTC, about $1B to $1.2B depending on the Bitcoin price. Co-founder Yi He said annual revenue can cover the rest without a sale.
Figures on frozen and recovered assets may change as tracing continues.
In short, the Binance SpaceX investment gives the exchange a visible asset to point to, yet final numbers may still move. For the next update, follow the latest crypto news.
