Bitcoin(BTC) spot ETFs posted $450.4 million in net outflows Tuesday as Bitcoin fell 2.5% and U.S. crypto legislation stalled in the Senate.

Key Points:

  • U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs lost $450.4 million on Sept. 15, their largest daily outflow since June 24.
  • Fidelity led withdrawals with $214.8 million from FBTC, while BlackRock recorded $161.7 million from IBIT.
  • Bitcoin traded near $75,700, down 2.5% over 24 hours when the report was published.

Bitcoin ETF Outflows

The 13 U.S.-listed spot Bitcoin funds reversed Monday’s $159.9 million inflow with a $450.4 million net withdrawal Tuesday, according to Farside Investors data cited by Cointelegraph, marking a sharp one-day swing in fund demand. It was the group’s heaviest daily redemption since late June.

Fidelity’s FBTC accounted for $214.8 million, while BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust lost $161.7 million, Grayscale’s GBTC shed $44.1 million, ARK 21Shares’ ARKB lost $17.4 million and Bitwise’s BITB posted $12.4 million.

The selling came as Bitcoin traded near $75,700, down 2.5% over 24 hours, while the Senate’s failure to advance the CLARITY Act added another source of uncertainty during an already weaker session for the cryptocurrency. The market and policy pressure arrived together.

Citigroup Flow Context

The size of the withdrawal matters because spot ETFs offer regulated Bitcoin exposure through conventional brokerage accounts, making large daily inflows and outflows a closely watched measure of how investors are allocating capital.

Earlier this year, analysts at Citigroup argued that persistent ETF withdrawals were a more important driver of Bitcoin weakness than isolated corporate Bitcoin sales during a separate June decline after several weeks of market pressure. That earlier assessment does not explain Tuesday’s move alone.

Fidelity and BlackRock together accounted for $376.5 million of the reported outflow, or roughly 84% of the total, concentrating most of the day’s redemptions in two funds before smaller withdrawals from Grayscale, ARK 21Shares and Bitwise.

The last larger daily withdrawal came June 24, when U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs lost about $469 million as a technology-stock sell-off pressured risk assets and investors cut exposure across markets during a difficult stretch for crypto funds. Tuesday’s reversal brought redemptions close to that level again.
