Bitcoin faced renewed downside pressure near $80,000 this week as investors processed widening uncertainty surrounding US interest rates and mixed signals from institutional inflows in the cryptocurrency sector.

Fed Decision Pressures Bitcoin

BTC slipped below the $80,000 threshold on October 29 before attempting to recover, continuing a stretch of volatility that has repeatedly blocked advances toward the $85,000 region. Market observers attributed the weakness in part to the Federal Reserve’s latest policy meeting, where officials opted to keep the benchmark interest rate steady at 3.75%-4.00%.

Federal Reserve policymakers left the possibility of additional policy tightening open, casting a cloud over risk-sensitive assets such as cryptocurrencies. Market participants noted that ongoing uncertainty over future rate moves could keep pressure on the broader digital asset market for the foreseeable future.

Institutional ETF Flows Offer Limited Support

Spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds in the United States recorded approximately $137.3 million in net inflows on October 28, according to data compiled by ETF tracking services. This marked the third straight trading session of positive flows for the group.

The iShares Bitcoin Trust, managed by BlackRock, accounted for roughly $136 million of that demand, underlining the sustained appetite from one of the world’s largest asset managers. The three-session total for spot Bitcoin ETFs reached about $423.7 million, offsetting some of the outflows observed earlier in October, when funds saw nearly $773.5 million withdrawn over two days.

Despite this turnaround in ETF flows, Bitcoin has struggled to generate a strong rally. Market participants pointed to ongoing selling by longer-term holders, shifting liquidity conditions, and significant activity in derivatives markets as additional headwinds.

ETF demand has improved, but continued uncertainty in macroeconomic policy and technical resistance zones are limiting Bitcoin’s recovery even as inflows return. Investors are balancing the optimism from new US ETF inflows with caution about rate policy.

Analysis from Coinbase Institutional, the professional trading division of leading US-based crypto exchange Coinbase, has previously identified the $80,000–$82,000 region as a critical support zone for Bitcoin. That zone is informed by aggregate investor cost data and technical chart signals, providing a reference point for both institutional and retail participants.

However, Bitcoin has consistently struggled to hold the $80,000–$82,000 range during October, which has weakened the short-term bullish outlook. A sustained breakout above $83,000 could renew momentum toward $85,000–$86,000, a zone analysts at QCP Capital have previously described as Bitcoin’s next upper trading region. Institutional forecasts such as Citigroup’s $113,000 target, though, are seen as long-term scenarios and not imminent price objectives.

Technical Risks and Downside Scenarios

Analysts caution that the bearish outlook could intensify if Bitcoin fails to reclaim $80,000 and downward momentum increases. Bitfinex, a global cryptocurrency exchange established in 2012, has previously highlighted $77,000 as an essential technical support. Should Bitcoin lose this level, further declines toward $75,000 or even $73,000 could become likely, based on technical assessments from sources linked to Coinbase.

These projections are contingent and not assured, with market direction hinging on upcoming macroeconomic signals and continued ETF activity.

Elevated US Treasury yields and the prospect of prolonged restrictive monetary policy remain key risks for cryptocurrencies, given their sensitivity to shifts in broader financial conditions.

For now, traders are watching to see whether renewed institutional interest through exchange-traded products is sufficient to overcome the effects of cautious central bank policy and short-term technical resistance zones.
