Bitcoin slipped below the $80,000 threshold over the past 24 hours, briefly touching $79,330 before regaining some ground to trade at $80,264 on Saturday. The leading cryptocurrency fell 2.7% for the week and remains roughly 36% below its all-time high of $126,080, according to CoinGecko data.

ETF outflows accelerate as October losses mount

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded sharp net outflows over Thursday and Friday, with total outflows amounting to $773 million. Thursday saw investors pull $635.5 million from spot funds, erasing most of the gains accumulated during a three-day inflow streak earlier in the week. Friday brought an additional $137.9 million in outflows, based on SoSoValue figures.

Despite these back-to-back outflows, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs finished the week up by nearly $301 million, overcoming a two-week losing streak. However, fund flows for October remain negative, with a net loss of $314 million, highlighting continued uncertainty surrounding risk assets.

Analysts have pointed to several factors driving recent volatility, including concerns about upcoming Federal Reserve policy decisions and global macroeconomic uncertainty. The sell-off in technology stocks has contributed to investor caution and selling pressure in the crypto markets.

Tim Sun, senior researcher at HashKey, emphasized that recent declines reflect “a broader correction in global risk assets,” citing growing skepticism toward elevated valuations in AI-related technology stocks as a significant influence. He noted that large outflows from spot Bitcoin ETFs and the unwinding of leveraged positions further intensified downside moves.

Investors are not necessarily questioning the long-term prospects of artificial intelligence, but rather whether current elevated valuations can be justified by future earnings and cash flows. Outflows from spot Bitcoin ETFs and the unwinding of leveraged positions further amplified the downward pressure.

Fed decision and macro risks keep volatility high

With the Federal Reserve set to announce its latest policy decision on Wednesday, analysts have warned of continued volatility. Persistent inflation, elevated Treasury yields, and the prospect of further tightening have dampened investor enthusiasm for speculative assets, according to Daniela Hathorn, senior market analyst at Capital.com.

Stephen Wundke, strategy and revenue director at Algoz, highlighted the psychological importance of the $80,000 level for Bitcoin. He cautioned that a move below this mark, especially during periods of low weekend trading volume, may not offer clear market signals.

Wundke also expressed concern over shrinking trading volumes as investors move away from altcoins and place funds in stablecoins. He said that Bitcoin must hold above $82,000—the level that marked the start of rallies in August and September—to sustain a bullish outlook. Falling below this support could trigger a broader pullback while macro uncertainty persists.

The bull case for Bitcoin is not dead but it is keeping its head below the parapet whilst so many stray bullets are flying across the globe.

All eyes on inflation, tech earnings, and meme coin dynamics

Hathorn remarked that this week’s Federal Reserve meeting and major U.S. technology earnings have become just as critical for Bitcoin as events within the crypto sector itself. A more hawkish Fed stance could boost the dollar and put new pressure on risky assets. She added that Bitcoin’s recovery is likely to remain fragile unless stronger institutional demand develops alongside improving sentiment.

As traders closely monitor key price levels and resistance points, the meme token market also demonstrates the speed with which internet trends can generate significant gains. Data from Fomo App highlighted a recent trade in “Niu Lai,” where an initial investment of $99 turned into approximately $370,000. With meme tokens, monitoring not only prices but also investor timing and token selection is increasingly vital. Fomo App provides an integrated platform for discovering tokens, social feeds, investor rankings, and timely trading notifications.

Looking ahead, analysts maintain that $75,000 could serve as crucial support for Bitcoin if further downside emerges. With continued macroeconomic headwinds and the U.S. midterm elections approaching, cryptocurrency market volatility is expected to remain elevated.
