Bitcoin(BTC) rose more than 6% toward $86,600 as improving Wall Street sentiment revived the question of whether the cryptocurrency can keep moving with equities into the fourth quarter.

Key Points:

  • Bitcoin gained more than 6% near $86,600 as risk appetite returned.
  • The Federal Reserve and Bank of Japan raised rates this month, yet stocks stayed resilient while mega-cap technology shares resumed leadership.
  • Strategists say easing oil, AI safety and rate fears have improved the market setup.

Bitcoin Market Shift

Bitcoin climbed more than 6% to trade near $86,600 on Sept. 21, extending a monthly advance that had reached about 12%. The move followed a volatile September in which investors confronted higher interest rates, oil concerns and questions around artificial intelligence safety without a lasting breakdown in equities.

The S&P 500 had gone 37 days without a 1% decline. That steadiness has helped support broader risk appetite, even after the Federal Reserve and Bank of Japan both increased interest rates during the month.

Bitcoin has not always followed stocks.

Amoroso Risk View

Anastasia Amoroso, chief investment strategist at Partners Group, told CNBC’s Closing Bell that oil, AI safety and higher-rate concerns had eased, leaving more room for equities to advance into year-end. Ryan Detrick, chief market strategist at Carson Group, said the Federal Reserve’s tone was more dovish than expected, helping explain why markets absorbed the rate increase without deeper selling.

Katie Stockton, founder of Fairlead Strategies, said mega-cap technology and semiconductor shares had resumed leadership, a rotation she viewed as necessary for the broader equity uptrend to continue.

That leadership keeps risk assets in focus. For Bitcoin, the key issue is whether easier market sentiment and stronger equities can continue attracting capital to crypto rather than pulling investors back toward traditional assets.

Bitcoin is up about 12% this month, but its recent history remains mixed because the asset has previously sat out stock rallies despite often trading like a high-beta technology proxy.
