Bitcoin is currently trading at $81,615, maintaining its position around the 50-day moving average of $80,800 after a slight pullback from the $84,000 region. This level has remained a pivotal point throughout October, underscoring its importance for short-term market dynamics.

Surge in Open Interest Reflects Market’s Bullish Sentiment

The open interest in Bitcoin futures has surpassed $140 billion, reaching one of the highest levels recorded on the charts. Open interest signifies the total value of futures contracts that have not yet been settled and an increase often suggests a fresh influx of capital into the market.

The rise in open interest during periods of price stasis often indicates the groundwork for a substantial market move is being laid.

The open interest in terms of Bitcoin is nearing the 100,000 BTC mark. Compared to the lows observed in June and July, this significant rise, coupled with stable trading volumes, highlights sustained investor interest. This scenario reflects not just a waiting game but active positioning within the market.

However, the building accumulation in leveraged trades escalates associated risks. If prices break sharply in the wrong direction, it could trigger compulsory liquidations, accelerating selling or buying pressures. Thus, the current setup holds potential for upward movement as much as it does for sudden volatility.

Technical Analysis Highlights Key Support and Resistance Levels

On the daily chart, Bitcoin persists above major moving averages, with the 100-day average at $77,500 and the 200-day average around $76,200. The upward trend of both averages supports the continuation of the medium-term trend. Since the breakout in August, buyers have consistently entered the market near these areas during pullbacks.

The next substantial selling zone lies between $84,000 and $86,000, where the price has been resisted twice in September and October. Surpassing the annual high of $87,500 could unlock a pathway towards the critical $90,000 level.

A strong daily close above $87,500 could bolster expectations for the next phase of upward movement.

$80,000 Level Holds Short-Term Market Sway

The Relative Strength Index (RSI) stands at 45, indicating that the market is neither in the oversold nor the overbought territory. After peaking in August, the index’s current calmness allows the price to rally without appearing overly inflated.

To the downside, initial support is noted at $80,000, followed by $77,500. If Bitcoin falls below $80,000 while open interest remains elevated, forced liquidations could draw the price towards the 100-day average. Such a pullback may not disrupt the broader trend alone but could delay progress toward the $90,000 target.

For now, as Bitcoin stays above critical averages with continued leverage buildup in the market, the two most closely monitored zones are above $87,500 and below $80,000 for direction setting in the near term.
