Pressure from rising U.S. bond yields and climbing oil prices caused Bitcoin to dip below $83,000 during Asian trading this morning. However, the cryptocurrency maintained its decline to less than 1%, testing the lower bounds of last week’s trading range. Despite this, funds continued flowing into U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs for the eighth consecutive day.
Why Are Markets Pressured?
Rising bond yields and energy prices are central to current market pressure. U.S. 10-year Treasury yields rose another basis point, reaching 5.25% in Asian trading after hitting their highest levels since 2007 on Monday. The increase in yields from government bonds makes Bitcoin, which doesn’t offer regular income, less attractive.
What’s Fueling Oil Prices?
Fading expectations for diplomatic progress with Iran pushed Brent crude up for the second consecutive day, exceeding a 1% gain to around $107 per barrel. This rise heightened inflation concerns and the possibility of further Federal Reserve interest rate hikes. Meanwhile, the MSCI All-Country World Index dropped to its lowest since September 18, while Nasdaq 100 futures declined by 0.3% following a tech-led sell-off on Wall Street.
Altcoins similarly suffered, with most major tokens seeing losses. According to CryptoAppsy data, ZEC led the fall with a 12% drop to about $1,380. SOL and HYPE lost 3-4%, DOGE declined 3%, and both BNB and XRP fell around 2%. Bitcoin’s movement below $82,000 could signal the market’s hesitation to rally in the immediate future.
Alex Kuptsikevich, Chief Market Analyst at FxPro, commented, “Bitcoin might retest the lows around $82,000 formed in May and early September under current conditions.”
Upcoming U.S. personal consumption expenditures index data from August, set for release Wednesday, will be closely watched. Surpassing expectations could increase interest rate hike expectations, impacting Bitcoin’s recovery above $87,000.

Goldman Sachs is expanding access to its $100 billion U.S. Treasury fund for institutional crypto firms via the Lynq network, maintaining a traditional structure as opposed to tokenized offerings. Bitcoin’s short-term outlook is swayed by yield pressures and ETF investments, with macroeconomic factors pivotal for any potential rally. Ongoing institutional activity remains a positive yet conditional indicator for Bitcoin’s path forward.
