Bitcoin Price Tops $80K as CFTC Moves Ahead After CLARITY Act Setback

Bitcoin has climbed above $80,000, extending its recovery as a fresh regulatory development emerges in Washington. The rebound comes just days after the CLARITY Act failed to advance in the U.S. Senate, leaving the cryptocurrency industry facing uncertainty over comprehensive market structure legislation.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has reportedly submitted a new crypto market structure proposal to the White House for review. The move follows Chair Michael Selig’s pledge to use the agency’s existing authority to address digital asset regulation rather than wait for Congress to act.

The development indicates that regulatory work can continue even without immediate progress on the CLARITY Act.

However, a proposal submitted for White House review is not a finalized rule. Its scope, implementation timeline and potential effects on crypto businesses remain uncertain.

The Senate setback also does not mean the CLARITY Act is permanently dead. Lawmakers could revisit the legislation, although its next steps remain unclear.

Bitcoin Price Reclaims $80K, but Questions Remain

Bitcoin’s move above $80,000 marks a notable recovery after its recent decline toward the $75,000 region.

The timing of the CFTC news may have helped improve sentiment, but there is no clear evidence that the proposal directly caused the rally.

For now, holding above $80,000 would strengthen Bitcoin’s immediate recovery picture. A move back below that level could put the recent breakout under pressure, with traders watching whether buying interest returns at lower prices.

The broader takeaway is that U.S. crypto regulatory efforts are continuing despite the Senate setback. Whether the CFTC’s proposal delivers meaningful clarity—and whether Bitcoin can sustain its rebound—remains to be seen.

Editorial note: The CFTC submission and its precise contents should be confirmed against an official announcement before publication.
