Bitcoin remains at a critical juncture, with its short-term trajectory hinging on whether it can reclaim the key $64,000 resistance zone. Market participants are closely monitoring this barrier, as large liquidity clusters have developed both above and below the current price, increasing the risk of sharp moves in either direction.

Breakout or Rejection: The $64,000 Resistance

After climbing back to the $64,000 area, Bitcoin has yet to confirm a clear breakout. The next 12-hour candle close is expected to indicate whether the cryptocurrency is genuinely overcoming resistance or simply retesting it before another downturn.

On Coinbase’s 12-hour chart, Bitcoin traded near $63,465 after briefly testing the $64,000 resistance. This price zone has acted as a significant pivot in recent weeks, making a sustained move above it essential for improving the coin’s near-term outlook.

A descending trendline connecting recent lower highs also sits near the current price, adding another technical obstacle. Market analyst EliZ commented on X that only a strong close above $64,000 with follow-through support would reinforce bullish momentum.

“A decisive 12-hour close above $64,000, followed by a successful hold or retest, would strengthen the case that buyers are regaining control.”

Should BTC break and hold above this resistance, analysts expect upside targets between $65,000 and $67,200. Alternatively, a rejection could send Bitcoin toward the nearest liquidity cluster between $61,500 and $62,400 before potentially testing additional support levels.

Support and Risk Levels

Immediate support sits around $62,000, with a more robust demand zone near $61,000. Breaking through this key band would undermine the bullish setup and could send Bitcoin down to the larger demand region between $57,000 and $58,400.

Analysts emphasize that holding above $64,000 would be needed to improve the short-term structure. Otherwise, Bitcoin may remain pressured below descending resistance and at risk for further losses.

Liquidity Buildup and Market Vulnerability

Bitcoin is currently trading in a zone surrounded by dense liquidity clusters, leaving the market poised for rapid movements if a breakout or breakdown occurs. Data from liquidity heatmaps highlights the nearest sizable cluster below price at $61,500 to $62,400, while several upside targets are stacked from $65,000 to $67,500.

On liquidation heatmaps, brighter horizontal bands identify regions densely packed with stop orders from leveraged traders. A move into these clusters can set off a wave of liquidations, adding volatility and potentially accelerating the price trend.

At the time the liquidity chart was captured, Bitcoin was trading around $63,968, positioning it nearly halfway between these opposing liquidity areas. Kaz, a prominent market watcher, noted that downside liquidity may attract price action before any sustained push higher.

“The lower cluster is the closest major liquidity pool, and a sustained breach below $63,200 could see price targeting the $62,400 region, with heavier concentrations near $61,600.”

BTC also faces several upside targets, with notable liquidity bands at $65,200 and $65,700, as well as larger concentrations from $66,300 to $66,800 and extending toward $67,200.

The sequence remains uncertain; if sellers drive BTC below the lower band and the price quickly rebounds above $62,400, a recovery scenario could unfold. However, extended trading beneath the primary support would boost the risk of additional declines.
