Large Bitcoin investors have ramped up accumulation in recent weeks, absorbing coins as mid-sized holders sharply reduce their exposure. Fresh on-chain data shows a marked split between major wallet cohorts, with Bitcoin supply increasingly flowing from mid-sized addresses into the hands of bigger players.

Whale wallets accelerate accumulation

Wallets holding between 1,000 and 10,000 BTC acquired approximately 66,700 BTC over the past 60 days, pushing their net accumulation close to the 68,000 BTC recorded in mid-June. This activity marks the most aggressive buying from this group since February 17, when net accumulation briefly exceeded 106,000 BTC.

Large holders, often called “whales” in crypto markets, typically have significant influence over price trends due to their investment scale and longer time horizons. Their steady accumulation can result in less Bitcoin being available on exchanges, particularly when coins are moved to secure wallets for long-term storage.

Major Bitcoin whale wallets absorbed nearly 66,700 BTC in just two months, matching the highest accumulation rates seen so far this year.

Institutional demand appears resilient as well. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs have recently returned to net inflows, signaling sustained interest from asset managers even as overall market prices remain in consolidation.

Mid-sized holders increase selling

By contrast, wallets controlling 100 to 1,000 BTC have distributed around 77,800 BTC over the same 60-day period, marking one of the largest waves of selling for this group in recent months. Historically, mid-sized holders show higher sensitivity to short-term price shifts compared to whales.

The increased selling comes amid a period of relatively subdued Bitcoin price activity, as the asset has traded within a narrow range following high volatility earlier in the year. Many investors in this group appear to be taking profits or trimming positions. In a notable reversal of earlier patterns, these holders were net accumulators in late April, amassing over 92,000 BTC before Bitcoin faced a 29% short-term correction just days later.

Ownership trends now show the largest whales expanding their positions even as mid-sized investors reduce exposure, a reversal from earlier accumulation waves.

Now, the dynamic has shifted. Instead of fueling surges, mid-sized holders are selling as the largest wallets continue to amass Bitcoin. Analysts say these kinds of divergences in wallet flows can help reveal underlying market sentiment and potential supply shifts.

Bitcoin supply consolidates among long-term holders

Bitcoin’s ownership is becoming more concentrated among large whales, as supply sold by mid-sized holders is absorbed by bigger investors. This pattern can decrease the amount of BTC available for sale on exchanges, easing short-term selling pressure if buyer demand stays steady or grows.

Recent data shows exchange balances have dropped further, indicating that many long-term players are moving coins off trading platforms and into self-custody, rather than preparing to liquidate.

Institutional adoption has also increased in 2026, with asset managers expanding crypto product offerings and more capital flowing into tokenized investment vehicles. These developments have contributed to Bitcoin’s long-term investment case, despite regular market pullbacks.

While on-chain movements alone cannot predict future prices, analysts suggest that the ongoing accumulation by whales could create a stronger supply backdrop if mid-sized selling wanes. For now, data points to ownership shifting toward larger, long-term holders—a trend that continues to draw the attention of market observers seeking early signs of changing investor sentiment.
