Digital asset infrastructure firm BitGo (NYSE: BTGO) launched a dedicated research unit on September 24 and named Greg Cipolaro, the former global head of research at NYDIG, to run it. The new function, BitGo Research, will publish market commentary, thematic reports, and data-driven analysis for the company’s institutional clients, BitGo said in an announcement. Founded in 2013, BitGo provides custody, wallets, staking, trading, financing, stablecoins, and settlement services to thousands of institutions.

A familiar face from NYDIG

Cipolaro joins BitGo following the company’s recent acquisition of NYDIG’s institutional trading business, where he served as global head of research and built a research franchise recognized for its coverage of bitcoin and digital asset markets. His market commentary and analysis were relied on by institutional investors, allocators, and corporates navigating the asset class.

What the new desk will cover

The unit will draw on BitGo’s position across custody, trading, financing, and settlement to produce ongoing market commentary, thematic reports, and data-driven analysis for its institutional client base. “Greg is a widely respected voice in digital asset research, and bringing his expertise in-house allows us to offer clients an even deeper level of market insight,” said chief executive and co-founder Mike Belshe.

Cipolaro said BitGo sits at the intersection of custody, trading, and financing for some of the largest institutional participants in the market, which gives the research arm a vantage point that is hard to replicate. “I’m excited to build on the work we started at NYDIG and deliver research aimed to help clients make sense of a market that continues to evolve quickly,” he said.

Building out institutional research

Pete Janney, BitGo’s head of financial infrastructure, said Cipolaro’s research was a core part of what made the institutional trading franchise valuable to clients, and that continuing it at BitGo, backed by a broader platform, is consistent with the strategic rationale behind the acquisition. The launch follows BitGo’s broader institutional push, including the opening of a Singapore office as its Asia-Pacific client base tripled. BitGo Research is expected to serve clients seeking to understand market structure, macro trends, and the digital asset landscape. BitGo maintains several regulated entities, including BitGo Bank & Trust, National Association, the first federally chartered digital asset trust bank owned by a publicly traded company.
