The TAO price is getting close to a level that could determine the direction of its next major move. After spending weeks below $260, Bittensor has climbed back toward that resistance, giving bulls another chance to prove they can take control.

Crypto Rand has identified $260 as the key level to watch. The analyst believes a break above this area could trigger a broader bullish reversal and open the door to higher targets, including $290, $330, $370 and eventually $400.

But the chart is only one part of the TAO story. Bittensor is also making changes to its subnet economy, and questions around real AI revenue could play an important role in determining whether the token can maintain a sustained recovery.

The TAO Price Level Bulls Need to Reclaim

We had a look at the TAO chart and found that the token has recovered from the $210-$230 area after spending much of the recent period inside a descending structure. TAO traded around $233 on August 26 before climbing toward the $250 area on August 27. That leaves the token within striking distance of the $260 resistance identified by Rand.

A confirmed break above $260 would give bulls their first major technical victory. The next resistance levels on the chart are $290 and $330, followed by $370 and $410. If buyers manage to move through those levels, $400 would become a realistic intermediate target.

The breakout still needs confirmation, though. If TAO moves above $260 and fails to hold the level, the previous resistance could turn into a failed breakout zone. In that case, $230 becomes the first support to watch, followed by $210.

Bittensor Is Changing How Subnet Rewards Work

The technical setup comes at an important point for the Bittensor network itself. In July 2026, Bittensor introduced the V440 Emission Gate, which changed how TAO emissions are distributed among subnets.

The system uses a demand threshold to reduce rewards for subnets with weaker market demand and allocate more emissions toward those performing above the threshold. Data from the upgrade shows that 94 subnets had their combined reward share reduced from 38% to 12%, whereas the top eight subnets increased their share from 33% to 53%.

That matters for the TAO price because emissions are a major part of the network’s economics. If rewards become increasingly concentrated around subnets with actual demand, the network could become more efficient. The other side of that equation is concentration risk, since a larger share of emissions going to a small group of subnets could reduce diversity across the ecosystem.

Revenue Could Determine Whether The Rally Lasts

The bigger question for Bittensor is whether subnet activity is producing enough genuine customer revenue. A video shared by 2xnmore questioned the widely circulated $43 million Bittensor AI revenue figure for Q1 2026.

The issue is verification. Much of the AI work happens outside the blockchain, meaning customer transactions cannot always be independently confirmed through on-chain data. The analysis cited an independent estimate of roughly $3 million to $15 million in revenue for the full year, creating a wide gap between that estimate and the $43 million quarterly figure.

This is why the subsidy ratio deserves attention. One estimate for Chutes placed its annual emissions at roughly $52 million against external revenue of about $1 million to $2.4 million.  That works out to roughly $22-$40 of subsidy for every $1 of customer revenue. If that ratio falls, it would indicate that real demand is beginning to cover more of the network’s token incentives. If it remains high, the economics become harder to justify at higher valuations.

Can The TAO Price Reach $400?

The immediate answer depends on $260. A sustained break above that level could put $290 and $330 within reach, followed by $370 and $400. A failed breakout would put $230 and $210 back on the radar.

There is also an institutional catalyst to watch. Grayscale has filed documents connected to its Bittensor Trust, giving TAO another potential source of demand if a spot product eventually receives approval.

For now, the TAO price is at an important technical crossroads. The $260 level will determine whether this recovery has enough strength to continue, but the bigger test will be whether Bittensor can turn its subnet activity into verifiable revenue. If both developments move in the right direction, the $400 target becomes much easier to justify.

FAQs

Is Bittensor’s reported AI revenue accurate❓

This is disputed. A widely cited figure claims $43 million in Q1 2026 AI revenue, but this is difficult to verify since much of the activity happens off-chain. An independent estimate placed full-year revenue at roughly $3 million to $15 million, far below the quarterly figure being circulated.

Is this emissions change good or bad for TAO❓

It could go either way. Concentrating emissions on higher-demand subnets may make the network more efficient, but it also raises concentration risk by reducing diversity across the broader subnet ecosystem.
