BlackRock, one of the world’s largest asset management companies, argued that the widespread adoption of artificial intelligence could be a significant factor in increasing demand for cryptocurrencies, but one that hasn’t yet been sufficiently priced into the market.

In its latest research report, BlackRock stated that the increasing prevalence of AI agents and machine-to-machine payments could boost demand for stablecoins, cryptocurrencies, and other on-chain assets.

According to the company, AI agents need to be able to perform high-frequency, low-value, and even under-a-cent machine-to-machine transactions 24 hours a day. In traditional payment systems, account opening processes, authorization requirements, transaction fees, and settlement times pose significant limitations for such payments.

BlackRock believes that stablecoins, in particular, are well-suited for this use case and could become a fundamental transaction tool in future trading activities carried out by AI agents.

The report also noted that the demand for computing power in the AI sector could create new use cases for crypto assets. With the increasing need for computing power by AI companies, it was stated that rights to computing resources could be tokenized in the future. This would make it possible to transfer, buy, sell, or use these rights as collateral.

Furthermore, it is considered that an economic structure could emerge in which artificial intelligence agents could automatically purchase the computing resources they need from blockchain-based markets.
