Block, the fintech company led by Jack Dorsey, gave away one Bitcoin valued at $85,000 to a lucky participant at this year’s ComplexCon in Los Angeles, as part of its ongoing efforts to drive wider adoption of the cryptocurrency.
Bringing Bitcoin to ComplexCon
ComplexCon, an annual event organized by Complex Networks, attracts thousands of visitors interested in culture, music, fashion, and technology. This year, Block set up an interactive booth to introduce new users to Bitcoin through entertainment and digital payments.
Block featured its Cash App at the event, alongside a game called “Lightning Lake.” Participants played for small Bitcoin prizes, with one person walking away with a full BTC as the top reward.
“We wanted bitcoin to feel approachable, tangible and fun,” said Maria Pesce, Head of Bitcoin Marketing at Block. She emphasized that the event allowed attendees to experience using Bitcoin in real-world scenarios, from first-time exposure to making purchases with the digital asset.
At Block, our goal is to make bitcoin everyday money, and ComplexCon gave us a chance to introduce bitcoin to a new audience through culture, shopping, and play.
According to Block, even high-profile attendees such as North West, daughter of Kanye West, and rapper French Montana, visited the Lightning Lake booth to participate in the Bitcoin giveaway game.
Block’s Push for Everyday Bitcoin Adoption
Block, previously known as Square, is a prominent fintech company that develops payment solutions and promotes cryptocurrency usage. Its Cash App enables users to buy, send, and receive Bitcoin easily, and Square’s point-of-sale terminals also accept Bitcoin payments through the Lightning Network.
Earlier this month, Block launched a new advertising campaign aimed at encouraging consumers to use Bitcoin as a medium of exchange rather than only as a store of value.
Jack Dorsey, who left his role at Twitter in 2021 to focus on advancing payments and cryptocurrency, has repeatedly expressed his ambition to see Bitcoin become a global currency and part of everyday transactions.

Through initiatives like its ComplexCon giveaway, Block continues to target new audiences and promote the use of Bitcoin in everyday life, combining elements of culture, shopping, and technology to lower barriers to crypto adoption.
