@BNBCHAIN has activated the Jenner hard fork on the BNB Smart Chain (BSC) testnet. The upgrade is aimed at keeping payments moving when the network is congested, and it introduces a new token standard for stablecoins and tokenized assets. Binance founder @cz_binance shared the update with the message "Keep building."

Payment Lane reserves block space for transfers

The main feature is Payment Lane, specified in BEP-703. By default, it sets aside 5% of each block's gas for qualifying payments.Governance can raise the reservation to a cap of 10%.

Eligibility is narrow at launch. Native $BNB transfers qualify when sent to accounts that hold no code. Token payments such as stablecoin transfers count only once governance approves the relevant contracts. The payment contract list will initially be empty, and governance can later add or remove eligible contracts, including stablecoins and CAS20 tokens. Other transactions cannot use the reserved space, even when it is empty.

The feature does not guarantee a transaction a place in a given block. Eligible payments still compete with each other if their combined demand exceeds the reserved capacity, and fees are not eliminated.

Millisecond timestamps and the CAS20 standard

Jenner also gives smart contracts a millisecond-accurate clock, useful for functions such as quote expiry and auction cutoffs. Crypto Economy reports the precision is intended to help DeFi oracles and auctions.

The fork also lays the base for CAS20, short for Compliant Asset Standard (BEP-702). Its compliance controls include shared allow and blocklists, transfer policies, pausing, and separate mint, burn and seizure roles.CAS20 keeps compatibility with BEP-20 tooling, so existing wallets and apps should be able to read these tokens.

CAS20 is not live yet. Token creation requires separate activation by a governance-appointed administrator.BNB Chain also noted that the technical controls do not on their own make a token legally compliant.

The activation is limited to the testnet. BNB Chain will announce mainnet timing separately. BNB Chain has not confirmed a mainnet date.Third-party tracking points to a late-November target that is not yet official.
