US President Donald Trump has made new statements regarding the $6.3 billion cyberattack on the cryptocurrency exchange Binance. Trump stated that they are investigating whether North Korea was behind the attack, and that Binance management has informed them that the situation is under control.
In a statement regarding the source of the attack, Trump said, “We are investigating whether the hacking attack on Binance was carried out by North Korea.”
The US President, in his assessment of Binance management, said, “Binance says the situation is under control.”
Trump also left no room for ambiguity regarding the nature of the incident, stating, “This was a hacking attack.”
North Korea Connection Strengthens
Trump’s remarks came after blockchain analytics companies assessed that North Korean-linked hacker groups may be behind the Binance attack.
Blockchain analytics companies TRM Labs and Chainalysis have reported that the attack may have been carried out by a North Korean-linked hacker group called TraderTraitor.
TRM Labs stated that the methods used by the attackers showed similarities to major cryptocurrency heists previously associated with North Korea. Based on technical findings, the company attributed the attack to a North Korean-linked group with a high level of confidence.
The group in question is also known to be linked to the attack in February 2025 that resulted in the theft of approximately $1.5 billion worth of cryptocurrency from the Bybit exchange.
However, Trump’s recent statements indicate that the US administration has not yet officially blamed North Korea for the Binance attack.
