BTQ's QPerfect joins France's first public neutral-atom quantum computing project

BTQ Technologies Corp.'s (Nasdaq: BTQ) quantum computing subsidiary QPerfect is joining France's push to build the country's first publicly accessible neutral atom quantum computing platform.

QPerfect, a wholly owned subsidiary of BTQ, has entered a research collaboration with the University of Strasbourg to support aQCess, a platform designed to give researchers and industry open access to advanced neutral atom quantum hardware. 

The project is led by co-coordinators Shannon Whitlock and Guido Pupillo at the Centre Européen de Sciences Quantiques, targeting more than 400 qubits.

Building a digital copy of real quantum hardware

Under the partnership, QPerfect is building what's known as a hardware-accurate digital twin of the aQCess quantum processor, using its MIMIQ simulation platform. A digital twin, in simple terms, is a virtual replica of a physical machine that mirrors its exact behavior, right down to how it processes instructions and handles errors.

This particular digital twin replicates the aQCess processor at the circuit level, including its native gate set, instruction architecture, atom transport operations, and even experimentally measured noise patterns. 

Deployed both on-site at CESQ and as a cloud-accessible service, it lets research teams test and validate quantum programs against an accurate model of the real machine before or alongside running them on the physical hardware itself.

QPerfect and the aQCess team are co-located in the same building in Strasbourg, giving QPerfect direct, ongoing access to a real, scaling neutral atom system as it comes online. Guido Masella is leading the scientific effort for QPerfect, alongside Stanimir Kondov for CESQ.

Why BTQ sees this as strategically important

Olivier Roussy Newton, CEO of BTQ Technologies, described MIMIQ as sitting directly within BTQ's broader deployment strategy across silicon, blockchain, and quantum networks, calling the partnership a way to make quantum systems "more usable, more reliable and more accessible as they scale."

"QPerfect's collaboration with the University of Strasbourg reflects exactly why BTQ moved to bring this team and technology into our platform," said Newton.

Philippe Blot, CEO of QPerfect, framed the collaboration as arriving at a pivotal moment for the industry. 

"Every major shift in computing is won or lost at the interface between hardware and the software that makes it usable," Blot said, drawing a parallel to his own experience during the transition to public key cryptography. 

He added that working directly alongside the aQCess team gives QPerfect "a hardware accurate view of a real, scaling neutral atom machine," which feeds directly into sharpening MIMIQ and QPerfect's broader Quantum Logic Unit as it scales toward 400 qubits and beyond.

Guido Pupillo, co-coordinator of aQCess, said a trustworthy digital twin is essential to the platform's mission of giving France and Europe open access to leading neutral atom hardware. "It lets users get productive on day one and lets us validate the machine as it scales," Pupillo said.

What aQCess actually is

aQCess, short for Atomic Quantum Computing as a Service, is a full-stack public quantum computing platform backed by the French National Strategy for Quantum Technologies. 

It brings together 18 partners, including seven research institutes, three graduate schools, and international collaborators, and is built around a first-of-its-kind processor powered by more than 400 individually controllable atomic qubits using ultracold ytterbium atoms.

QPerfect, founded in 2023 and based in Strasbourg, specializes in quantum computing and design automation, and previously received France's i-Lab Grand Prix. Its flagship product, MIMIQ, forms the foundation of the company's broader Quantum Logic Unit framework.
