  • BTQ Technologies announced on October 9, 2026 that it will serve as the security partner for MoonPay Korea’s won-backed stablecoin infrastructure, focused on post-quantum cryptography
  • The partnership includes a proof of concept of BTQ’s Quantum Secure Stablecoin Network with Korean banking institutions, with Woori Bank as the inaugural member of MoonPay Korea’s KRW Stablecoin Consortium
  • BTQ’s QSSN has also been selected for a separate proof of concept with Finger Inc. and iM Bank on the Kaia mainnet, alongside a commercial deployment agreement with LINE NEXT and the Kaia DLT Foundation

BTQ Technologies Corp., a Vancouver-based quantum technology company listed on Nasdaq and Cboe Canada, announced on October 9, 2026 that it would serve as the dedicated security partner for MoonPay Korea’s planned won-backed stablecoin infrastructure, with a specific focus on protecting the system using post-quantum cryptography. MoonPay Korea’s infrastructure spans the full lifecycle of a stablecoin, covering issuance support, distribution, digital wallets, settlement, currency conversion and last-mile delivery to both individual users and merchant partners.

Under the partnership, BTQ’s role is to apply post-quantum cryptographic protections across each layer of that stack, addressing not only current security threats but also the longer-term risk that sufficiently powerful quantum computers could eventually break the cryptographic schemes that currently secure most digital assets and payment infrastructure. The companies outlined a joint quantum-transition roadmap that begins with a cryptographic inventory of MoonPay Korea’s existing systems, followed by risk prioritization and a phased migration toward quantum-resistant alternatives.

A central component of the deal is a proof of concept testing BTQ’s Quantum Secure Stablecoin Network, or QSSN, together with Korean banking institutions, evaluating quantum-safe transaction signing and key management specifically within a banking context. Woori Bank has been named the inaugural member of MoonPay Korea’s newly formed KRW Stablecoin Consortium, giving the partnership an established banking partner through which to validate the quantum-safe infrastructure before any broader rollout across additional institutions.

MoonPay Korea’s stablecoin ambitions are tied to MoonPay’s broader global network, which the companies describe as serving more than 35 million customers across roughly 180 countries and working with over 1,500 enterprise clients, giving a won-backed stablecoin built on this infrastructure a potentially large existing distribution base to draw from if it successfully launches. BTQ’s involvement signals an attempt to build quantum resistance into the stablecoin’s foundation from the outset rather than retrofitting it after launch, a philosophy BTQ chief executive Olivier Roussy Newton emphasized directly, saying that “security designed in from the start will last far longer than security retrofitted later.”

The MoonPay Korea deal is not BTQ’s only active engagement in the region’s stablecoin and payments infrastructure. The company’s QSSN technology was previously selected as the core post-quantum cryptography provider for a separate proof of concept involving Finger Inc. and iM Bank on the Kaia blockchain’s mainnet, and BTQ also holds a commercial agreement with LINE NEXT and the Kaia DLT Foundation to deploy QSSN more broadly across the Kaia ecosystem. The announcement, filed as an exhibit to a Form 6-K with the SEC, included comments from MoonPay’s head of APAC, Bugeon Lee, who said BTQ would help the company develop a post-quantum roadmap and assess how its technology supports long-term infrastructure resilience.
