You can buy Litecoin in Germany on seven of the eight exchanges tracked by our price comparison, and on five of them from an operator licensed under MiCA, the European crypto regulation. Measured on Tuesday, October 27, 2026 at 12:40 p.m., the best ask prices for LTC against the euro at Bitvavo, Kraken and Coinbase were just 1.6 cents apart. At all three venues, 100 euros bought around 1.98 LTC. What makes the difference is therefore not the exchange but the route: a taker order in Bitvavo's order book costs 0.25 percent, a simple buy at Coinbase 1.875 percent.
Litecoin was quoted at 50.44 euros at that moment, equivalent to $56.21, and with a market capitalisation of 3.92 billion euros it ranks 22nd among the crypto assets listed by CoinMarketCap. Over the past 30 days the price has lost 21.5 percent. Where it could head next is covered in our Litecoin price prediction, and whether an entry at this level makes sense in the analysis Is Litecoin a Good Buy at Current Prices?. This guide answers the practical question: where, by which route and at what cost.
Buying Litecoin in Germany: the exchanges that trade LTC against the euro
Which exchange lists Litecoin against the euro was measured against the providers' public market listings. On October 27, 2026, seven of the eight exchanges carried a euro pair, among them Bitvavo, Kraken, Coinbase, Bitpanda, the Stuttgart Stock Exchange's BSDEX and the marketplace Bitcoin.de. That makes Litecoin one of the most widely listed crypto assets in the German-speaking market: alongside the large exchanges, the Stuttgart Stock Exchange and Bitcoin.de carry it too.
For a purchase from Germany, the licence counts as much as the euro pair. MiCA has applied without a transition period since July 1, 2026. Which providers are authorised as crypto-asset service providers is listed by the European securities regulator ESMA in a register; as of October 27, 2026 it holds 387 entries. For the Litecoin exchanges it shows:
- Bitvavo B.V., authorised by the Dutch AFM on June 26, 2025.
- Payward Europe Solutions Limited, the company behind Kraken, authorised by the Central Bank of Ireland on June 25, 2025.
- Coinbase Luxembourg S.A., authorised by Luxembourg's CSSF on June 20, 2025.
- Bitpanda GmbH, authorised by Austria's FMA on April 9, 2025.
- Stuttgart Stock Exchange: several companies in the group appear in the register under BaFin supervision, among them Baden-Wuerttembergische Wertpapierboerse GmbH since July 3, 2025.
The register itself sits in the MiCA section of the ESMA website. Bitcoin.de works differently from the rest: there you buy from other users and the operator only brokers the trade. What 100 euros buys in Litecoin: three order books in the same minute
For this guide the order books of Bitvavo, Kraken and Coinbase were queried in the same minute, and the amount of LTC a 100-euro purchase yields at the best ask was calculated, still before the trading fee:
Exchange
Bid
Ask
Spread
LTC for 100 euros
Bitvavo
€50.452
€50.464
0.024%
1.9816
Kraken

1.9814
Coinbase

Between the best and the weakest venue lie 0.0006 LTC, or three cents. Slightly larger is the difference in the spread, the gap between the highest bid and the lowest ask. It is the price no fee table discloses: buy and sell again immediately and you lose exactly that gap. On 100 euros it came to 2.4 cents at Bitvavo, 4.0 cents at Kraken and 16.9 cents at Coinbase. With daily turnover of $176 million across all venues, Litecoin is liquid enough that the spread barely matters for retail investors.

Across three order books, the amounts for 100 euros were only 0.0006 LTC apart.
Fees before price: what the route costs when you buy Litecoin
Every larger exchange offers two routes to the same coin. With an instant buy you accept a price the exchange displays, and the spread is already inside it. In the order book you place an order yourself, either as a taker, who immediately accepts an existing offer, or as a maker, whose limit order waits in the book. The rates the providers publish for Litecoin:
- Bitvavo: LTC/EUR sits in fee category A, at 0.25 percent as a taker and 0.15 percent as a maker on the entry tier.
- Kraken: 0.80 percent as a taker and 0.40 percent as a maker in the order book, and 1 percent on an instant buy according to its fee schedule.
- BSDEX: 0.35 percent as a taker, with no distinction by crypto asset.
- Bitcoin.de: a 1 percent marketplace fee, split evenly between buyer and seller.
- Bitpanda: 1.49 percent for crypto assets other than Bitcoin, according to its cost information document version 3.0.0 of February 2, 2026.
- Coinbase: 1.875 percent on a simple buy, plus the spread inside the displayed price.
On 100 euros that means 25 cents in fees as a taker at Bitvavo and 1.88 euros on a simple buy at Coinbase. After the fee, 1.9767 LTC remain at Bitvavo and 1.9655 LTC in Kraken's order book. Invest 100 euros a month for twelve months and the taker route at Bitvavo costs three euros a year, the simple buy at Coinbase 22.50 euros. With Litecoin, the choice of button costs more than the choice of exchange.
The Litecoin network: why a withdrawal costs only 40 cents
Litecoin launched in 2011 as its own blockchain, built by Charlie Lee as a faster variant of Bitcoin. A block appears every two and a half minutes on average instead of every ten, and supply is capped at 84 million LTC. According to CoinMarketCap, 77.76 million of those are in circulation, a good 92 percent. As with Bitcoin, the reward for new blocks halves at fixed intervals, most recently in August 2023.
For buyers, the network fee matters most. Because Litecoin runs its own blockchain with low utilisation, transfers are cheap. Bitvavo charges 0.008 LTC for a withdrawal, around 40 cents at Tuesday midday; the smallest possible withdrawal is 0.02 LTC, or a good one euro. Payouts there run exclusively over the Litecoin network itself, so with LTC a mix-up with a foreign network is barely possible.
Since May 2022 Litecoin has also supported the MWEB extension, which allows amounts to be transferred confidentially. Exchanges normally pay out to ordinary Litecoin addresses; whether an MWEB address, recognisable by its ltcmweb1 prefix, is accepted as a destination is shown by each exchange's withdrawal form before you confirm.

A withdrawal over the Litecoin network costs 0.008 LTC at Bitvavo.
Keep it on the exchange or withdraw: the second cost question when buying Litecoin
Leaving LTC on the exchange avoids the withdrawal fee but leaves custody with the provider. MiCA obliges authorised service providers to hold client assets separately from their own. Holding the keys yourself requires a wallet that supports Litecoin, which the common hardware wallets do; which devices suit longer holding periods and what they cost is set out in our hardware wallet comparison.
With small amounts the ratio is worth a look: 40 cents in network fees is around 0.8 percent on a 50-euro purchase and less than a tenth of a percent on 500 euros. Anyone buying small amounts regularly is better off withdrawing in one batch rather than after every purchase.
Minimum order for Litecoin: it starts at around four euros
The lower limits are low. Kraken requires at least 0.08 LTC in the LTC/EUR pair, roughly 4.04 euros at the time of measurement. Bitvavo sets its limit at the equivalent of 5 euros. The trading fee is calculated as a percentage everywhere, so measured against the amount a small purchase is no more expensive than a large one; only the fixed withdrawal fee weighs more heavily on it.
Tax on Litecoin gains: the German holding period still applies
Gains from selling Litecoin are taxable in Germany as a private disposal under section 23 of the Income Tax Act if no more than one year lies between purchase and sale. After that, the sale is tax free. Within the year an exemption threshold applies: once all private disposal gains in a calendar year reach 1,000 euros, the entire gain is taxable; below that it stays tax free.
A draft bill from the German Federal Ministry of Finance dated September 30, 2026 would scrap the one-year period for purchases made from January 1, 2027. The cabinet had not adopted it as of October 27, 2026, so it is not applicable law. We track the state of play in our report on the reform of the crypto holding period. What a sale would cost you today can be worked out with the CryptoTicker tax calculator. This section is no substitute for tax advice.
Buying Litecoin in three steps
- Pick an authorised exchange. Bitvavo, Kraken, Coinbase, Bitpanda and the BSDEX carry LTC/EUR with their operators licensed under MiCA. Opening an account requires an identity check, as anti-money-laundering law prescribes.
- Fund by SEPA and buy in the order book. A limit order just above the bid makes you a maker and lowers the fee; the instant buy is more convenient and more expensive.
- Decide on custody. Leave the coins on the exchange or withdraw them to your own wallet, at Bitvavo for 0.008 LTC per transaction.
What 1,000 euros of Litecoin costs at every exchange and on every route, fees included, is shown by the price comparison directly below, with the rate and the time it was taken.
