More than 100,000 Indian farms are now registered on the Cardano blockchain (@Cardano) $ADA, the Cardano Foundation announced. The milestone was reached as of October 21, 2026, according to Crypto Briefing.
The initiative uses satellite imagery and verified land data to create digital farm identities. It aims to help farmers access financial services and insurance.
How the farm registry works
Each farm parcel receives a tamper-resistant identity built on satellite-verified data and decentralized identifiers, Crypto Briefing reported. Sustainability histories and crop data are attached to each record. The intended users are lenders, insurers and traders who decide whether a farmer can get a loan, a policy or a buyer.
According to the Cardano Foundation's case study, the platform works as shared public infrastructure rather than a single application. Verified land boundaries, sustainability histories and crop data are recorded once and reused across finance, insurance, government programs and agricultural trade.
The project is a collaboration between Syngenta Foundation India and the Agri-Entrepreneur Growth Foundation, with technical support from AIQUANT, Anastasia Labs and Andamio, Crypto Briefing said. Field activity has focused on districts in Maharashtra, according to Cointrust.
Growth and what comes next
The latest figure marks a sharp rise from June 2026, when the Cardano Foundation said 15,000 farms had been registered through the Syngenta Foundation India project, according to the Foundation's monthly update.
The infrastructure is designed to support up to one million farms without additional operating costs, according to the Foundation's case study, as reported by U.Today. The Foundation also notes that more than 100 million small farmers in India are outside formal economies because of a lack of trusted, verifiable agricultural data, U.Today reported.
Analysts caution that registrations alone do not equal economic activity. Crypto Briefing noted that the value of a farm identity depends on whether lenders, insurers and traders actually use it in their decisions. Cointrust similarly said acceptance of the records will depend on the adoption policies of individual lenders and insurers.
For now, the milestone is a measure of onboarding progress for the Cardano ecosystem's real-world agricultural data project rather than a direct market driver for $ADA.
