Cardano creator Charles Hoskinson has just dropped a tantalizing hint about what could be his most ambitious venture yet.
Without revealing details, Hoskinson said he is heading to Texas for a “special project” he hopes to make public before the end of the year, calling it the “biggest thing” he’s ever done and claiming it could be “world-changing” and even bigger than Cardano.
Inside Hoskinson’s Secret Project That He Says Is Bigger Than Cardano
“I’m flying down to Texas for a special project; hopefully we’ll be able to announce that publicly this year. It’s the biggest thing I’ve ever done; it’s world-changing, bigger than Cardano,” Hoskinson stated during a recent YouTube AMA.
The mystery project could extend well beyond blockchain, potentially touching areas such as technology, biotechnology, energy, infrastructure, or climate solutions. Hoskinson’s reference to “terraforming the whole planet” has only added to the intrigue, although he has yet to reveal what the project actually involves.
For now, the details remain closely guarded, with Hoskinson indicating that more information could emerge later in 2026.
Hoskinson Doubles Down on Midnight, RealFi and More
The revelation came as Hoskinson revisited a plan once considered to reshape Cardano’s governance from within. He had explored forming a voting bloc that could command an estimated 20% to 30% of the network’s voting power, potentially giving the group significant influence over major decisions.
Cardano’s governance is conducted on-chain through Delegated representatives, stake pool operators, and the Constitutional Committee, with key proposals requiring participation from multiple groups.
Hoskinson ultimately walked away from the idea, however, fearing it would plunge the community into years of political battles and internal disputes. He said the fallout could have placed both him and Input Output at the center of blame if Cardano struggled with adoption or price performance, while potentially fueling calls to replace the Cardano Foundation or reclaim community funds.
In the end, Hoskinson decided he didn’t want to pursue the fight.
“I came to the conclusion that I don’t really have that fight in me anymore,” he opined.
Rather than getting drawn deeper into Cardano’s governance battles, Hoskinson said he would prefer to channel his energy into building out projects such as Pogun, RealFi and Midnight City. The shift signals a focus on expanding his broader ecosystem ambitions rather than getting further entangled in internal governance disputes.
Meanwhile, Cardano is also advancing Ouroboros Leios, a proposed upgrade to its proof-of-stake consensus architecture designed to significantly boost the network’s transaction throughput while preserving its core security guarantees. The scaling solution is expected to arrive later in 2026, potentially marking a major step in Cardano’s push for greater network capacity.
