Cardano (ADA) last reached its all time high price of $3.09 on September 2, 2021, according to updated data from market intelligence platform CoinGecko. Nearly six years after its launch, ADA remains far below this peak, trading at $0.21 and reflecting a 93.19% decline from its record price.
All-time high and Alonzo upgrade impact
The ADA price hit $3.09 days before Cardano’s Alonzo upgrade, which launched on September 12, 2021. The update, introduced as part of the project’s Goguen development era, enabled native smart contract support for the Cardano network with the deployment of the Plutus platform.
Although expectations ran high around this upgrade, ADA has failed to test its previous record since. Price movements following the launch displayed volatility, but none have resulted in a return toward the all time high.
CoinGecko posted, “ADA last hit its ATH of $3.09 exactly five years and 11 days ago. Are you looking to buy, sell, or hold the token?”
Current status and recovery prospects
To reclaim its previous high, Cardano would need to rally 1,371.43% from present levels. Uncertainty remains over ADA’s ability to mount such a recovery, as analysts and investors continue to debate the token’s prospects amid broader market volatility.

Cardano celebrates its annual network launch anniversary on September 23, the date of its genesis block in 2017. Development on the blockchain has been structured around five main eras: Byron, Shelley, Goguen, Basho, and Voltaire. The project is now transitioning into the Dijkstra era following the rollout of on-chain governance.

Recent integrations and upgrades
Cardano ADA is now integrated into the x402 codebase, enabling working payments on mainnet as well as preprod and preview testnets. Inclusion in official x402 packages allows developers to engage with Cardano through various programming languages, broadening adoption for application use.

SundaeSwap, a decentralized exchange built on Cardano, is scheduled to roll out its v4 protocol on Cardano Mainnet on October 1. This upgrade will bring new features such as modular pools, automated routing, concentrated liquidity, multi-asset pools, custom vaults, and support for partial fill orders.
Cardano’s scalable proof-of-stake protocol, Ouroboros Leios, is reportedly 96% ready and targets achieving 1,000 transactions per second. The scaling upgrade is expected to go live this year, potentially enhancing Cardano’s network performance and throughput.
