Summary
- CBI arrested Abhishek Kumar in Hyderabad and accused him of coordinating Mahadev betting panels and collecting funds for the network.
- Investigators linked alleged betting proceeds to Dubai property, while a separate inquiry traced transfers through hawala and overseas cryptocurrency channels.
- The CBI has charged 100 people and is pursuing suspects abroad through Red Corner Notices and ongoing international extradition proceedings.
India’s Central Bureau of Investigation arrested Abhishek Kumar at Hyderabad airport, bringing a suspected Mahadev betting network coordinator into custody. Kumar arrived from Dubai on September 24, and investigators allege he acquired property there using betting proceeds.
Kumar’s Arrest Puts Mahadev’s Betting Panels Under Scrutiny
According to the CBI, Kumar coordinated betting panels and collected funds for Mahadev Book’s online gambling activities. Investigators also believe he worked closely with Saurabh Chandrakar and Shubham Soni, two other accused figures in the case.
Officers searched Kumar immediately following his arrest and seized material the agency links to his alleged role. A Hyderabad court then granted three days of transit remand, allowing investigators to take him to Raipur. There, another court granted the CBI two days of police custody for further questioning.

Kumar’s suspected work with betting panels matters because investigators describe those branches as central to Mahadev Book’s operations. Panel operators handled betting activity, while the alleged promoters managed the wider network and its flow of funds.
According to the Enforcement Directorate, promoters retained approximately 70% to 75% of profits generated through the panels. Operators received the remaining share, creating a payment trail investigators can examine alongside Kumar’s alleged fund collections.
The CBI has not publicly identified which panels Kumar allegedly coordinated or how much money he personally collected. Investigators must establish those details, along with his suspected links to the other accused, through evidence presented in court.
Dubai Assets and Cryptocurrency Feature in Wider Investigation
Kumar’s arrest also draws attention to how the alleged betting proceeds moved beyond India. The CBI accuses him of using money from the operation to acquire immovable property in Dubai.
Separately, the Enforcement Directorate has traced Mahadev-related proceeds through bank accounts, hawala channels and cryptocurrency transactions. Its findings describe money moving overseas before reaching assets in India and the United Arab Emirates.
However, the broader cryptocurrency findings do not establish that Kumar personally handled Bitcoin, USDT, or another digital asset. The CBI’s public account identifies his suspected involvement in fund collection and Dubai property purchases, without detailing individual crypto transactions.
Chhattisgarh authorities transferred 13 cases concerning the betting app to the CBI. The agency has filed eight charge sheets against 100 accused people, including alleged promoters, panel operators, hawala operators and public servants.
Meanwhile, the CBI has sent seven Red Corner Notices and two extradition proposals to pursue suspects outside India. Extradition proceedings involving two accused are underway as investigators seek to bring the alleged promoters to trial.
Kumar’s arrest gives investigators access to a suspect they associate with betting panels, fund collection and overseas property. His alleged role remains for the courts to determine as the CBI traces other suspects and the network’s proceeds.
