Is the Latest Chainlink Hackathon Still Open for Entries?

A Chainlink hackathons is a contest where developers build small Web3 apps using Chainlink tools. The best projects get prizes. Anyone can read about it, but entry is only possible while an event is running.

These apps rely on an oracle network, which is why it helps to knowwhat Chainlink is before joining one.

The latest event, Convergence, ran from February 6 to March 8, 2026, and the winners are already posted. Theofficial event page shows a prize pool above $120,000.

Most searches now come from developers who want to know how the contests work, who can enter, and what to prepare before the next round. The details here come from the official pages.

The Chainlink hackathons is a timed contest. Teams build a working project, send it in, and judges pick the winners. Chainlink Hackathons ask teams to use Chainlink services in that project.

The reason is simple. Blockchains cannot see outside data on their own. A price, a score, or a weather reading has to come from somewhere.

Chainlink is an oracle network that brings that data in, and it helps to knowhow smart contracts get data before building anything.Convergence centered on the Chainlink Runtime Environment, called CRE. Projects had to use it in a meaningful way.

A developer who has shipped a small project understands what Chainlink does better than someone who skimmed a page.

The event page also lists perks. Participants get help from developer relations engineers. Top teams get case studies and showcases after the event.

Theofficial FAQ for Convergence set the rules:

  • Attendance was free, and anyone worldwide could enter, except people in U.S.-sanctioned countries.

  • Teams had one to five members, and each member registered on their own.

  • Building could start only on February 6. Earlier projects were not eligible unless meaningful on-chain updates were made during the event.

  • A working demo and a demo video under five minutes were required. A frontend was not.

  • Winners had to pass standard KYC checks to receive their prizes.

Rules can change from one event to the next, so the current page is the place to check first.

The Convergence FAQ asked for earlier experience with blockchain and smart contracts. It also asked for TypeScript skills and called CRE "not beginner-friendly."

Newcomers to hackathons were welcome. Newcomers to coding were not the target. Anyone still learning Solidity and wallets should practice on a test network first, where no real money is at risk.

Smart contracts do exactly what the code says. They cannot wake themselves up, though. Something has to start a task at the right moment, such as a payout on a set date.

That is the job ofChainlink Automation. A hackathon gives builders a short, low-risk place to test it, with experts nearby.

What Types of Projects Can Developers Build at These Events?

Convergence had tracks for autonomous agents, AI, DeFi and tokenization, prediction markets, privacy, and risk and compliance. The 2025 Chromion event also covered cross-chain tools.

Cross-chain projects connect separate blockchains, and Chainlink built itscross-chain interoperability protocol to handle that job. Real winners show what is possible.

TheConvergence winners page lists FlowVault, a vault that moves funds on its own, and SSL, a private trading layer for tokenized assets. It also warns that submissions are not production-ready or audited.

Most of the help happened on Discord, where participants could ask questions during the event. The FAQ also named a group of Chainlink developer experts who answered questions about CRE. Judges and engineers joined in too.

The honest limit is skill level. Help is plentiful, but a team still needs to write working code. Pairing a first-timer with an experienced teammate is the easiest way in.

What Role Do Workshops and Tutorials Play in Developer Learning?

Workshops show a real build from start to finish. A speaker sets up a project, calls a service, and fixes common errors.

At Convergence, workshops were hosted on YouTube. The FAQ also linked a CRE bootcamp recording and a written guide, which can be followed at any pace.

Chainlink offers several services, and projects often mix them:

  • Price data for lending and trading apps

  • Randomness for games and lotteries

  • Reserve checks for tokenized assets

  • Cross-chain messaging for multi-chain apps

Randomness shows why this matters. A game cannot pick a fair winner if players can guess the result.Chainlink VRF creates random numbers that anyone can check.

Reserve checks suit tokenized assets. A token that claims full backing can useProof of Reserve to show the proof in public.

What Prizes and Opportunities Can Hackathon Participants Earn?

Prizes differ by event:

Event

Prize detail

Spring 2022

$550,000 in prizes

Chromion, 2025

$35,000 Grand Prize (one award, not the full pool)

Convergence, 2026

$120,000+ prize pool

Convergence judged projects on technical execution, use of blockchain, effective use of CRE, and originality. Winners also earned showcase exposure. Prizes are never guaranteed, and most teams do not win one.

A finished event does not end a project. Teams can fix bugs, test again on a test network, and read the official docs for new features.

Many builders keep the project as a portfolio piece. Clean code and a clear demo often say more about a developer than a resume does. The Convergence FAQ also notes that teams keep ownership of their work.

Chainlink Hackathons give developers a practical way to learn oracle tools, meet other builders, and compete for prizes. Convergence drew more than 3,000 participants and over 500 submissions, according to its winners page.

Rules, prizes, and skill expectations change with each event. Readers should check the official hackathon page for current dates, tracks, and eligibility before signing up.
