Build on what works, not over it

@Nick_kerigan, Managing Director and Head of Innovation at @swiftcommunity, has a clear view on how the next financial system gets built. It does not start from scratch. Speaking at a recent industry event, Kerigan pushed back firmly on the idea that progress requires tearing existing infrastructure down, saying he does not believe that at all.

His argument is straightforward: the parts of the current stack that already supply trust and reliable data should be preserved. New technology, covering new forms of money, blockchains, and agentic AI, gets built around those foundations rather than over them. Kerigan has identified tokenisation, AI, and quantum computing as three forces reshaping financial services, noting that individually each is significant, but combined their potential could be transformational, and that this is where blockchain will finally deliver on its promise.

Swift connects 11,500 banks and corporates across 200 countries, processing a volume of transactions equivalent to the world's GDP every three days. That scale gives Kerigan's position real weight. When the network sitting at the centre of global finance signals it intends to evolve rather than be replaced, it is a meaningful signal for how incumbent institutions plan to engage with the next era of digital finance.

The collaboration between Chainlink and @swiftcommunity illustrates exactly this approach in practice. Rather than forcing banks and asset managers to overhaul infrastructure, the integration uses Swift's financial messaging network and Chainlink's Runtime Environment to bridge legacy systems with blockchain. Announced at Sibos 2025, Chainlink introduced the Digital Transfer Agent technical standard with UBS as the first global asset manager to adopt the solution, enabling financial institutions to manage tokenized fund subscription and redemption workflows directly from their existing systems using the Swift network via ISO 20022 messages.

Nick Kerigan has outlined how Swift is enhancing today's customer experience through its payments scheme, while simultaneously building the rails of the future by integrating a blockchain-based ledger into its infrastructure. Agentic AI is named as a key part of that same stack, feeding into unified infrastructure rather than running as a separate layer alongside it.

The narrative that incumbents cannot innovate has been challenged. Swift demonstrates that established institutions can embrace transformative technology while maintaining stability. For $LINK and the broader tokenisation ecosystem, Swift's posture confirms that the path to institutional adoption runs through existing financial plumbing, not around it.
