681 Whale Transactions in a Single Day

Chainlink ($LINK) just posted its most active day for large-holder transactions in nearly a year. According to data from @SantimentData, 681 transactions worth at least $100,000 were recorded in a single day on October 8, 2026, the highest daily total since November 19, 2025, and the busiest reading of the year so far.

The figure marks a significant step up from earlier in 2026. Santiment data covering April through October shows that daily whale transactions mostly ranged between 50 and 300 from April to July, before climbing steadily through August and September. The October 8 reading of 681 sits well above that trend.

It is worth noting that large transaction counts alone do not confirm whether major holders are buying or selling. The 681 figure captures all transfers above the $100,000 threshold, including exchange deposits, withdrawals, and wallet-to-wallet moves. Direction matters when interpreting the signal.

Context: A Year of Growing Whale Interest

The latest spike does not sit in isolation. Whale accumulation of $LINK has been a recurring theme throughout 2026. Large holders accumulated over 2.5 million LINK tokens in a 10-day window in late September, a period that also saw the token touch its 2026 high of $14.89. At the time of writing, $LINK was trading around $12.88, down roughly 2% on the day, according to market data.

The broader backdrop for $LINK includes growing institutional attention. Standard Chartered initiated coverage of the token in August 2026 with a long-term $200 price target for 2030, citing Chainlink's expanding role in tokenized assets, cross-chain infrastructure through CCIP, and institutional data services. The bank's research note, titled "Chainlink: Owning the rails," projected LINK reaching $13 by end-2026 before climbing to $41, $82, and $133 in subsequent years. Whether that narrative is now drawing fresh whale activity back into the token is an open question, but the on-chain data is hard to ignore.

For now, all eyes are on whether $LINK can hold key support levels and turn the surge in large-holder activity into sustained upward price momentum.
