The broadcast used Project Catalyst branding, displayed a QR code, and promised viewers they could “double your wealth,” prompting Hoskinson and IOG to tell users not to trust the channel.
The incident matters because the fraudulent content appeared on an official IOG account rather than a newly created impersonation channel. It increased the likelihood that viewers could mistake the stream for a legitimate Cardano announcement. IOG said users should avoid the channel entirely while the team works with YouTube to remove the content and reset access credentials.

This type of giveaway is a common cryptocurrency scam, but the apparent use of the official IOG channel made the situation more dangerous for users who might assume that content published there had been verified by the Cardano team.
The scam took another step by using what appeared to be an AI-manipulated version of the Cardano founder, Charles Hoskinson. This gave the broadcast the appearance of a real announcement from the Cardano founder.
