Cardano (@cardano) founder Charles Hoskinson (@IOHK_Charles) has pushed back against the bearish narrative surrounding $ADA, arguing that the network is on the cusp of a significant technical transformation and that its community remains its most durable asset.
Speaking publicly as the network prepares for a series of major upgrades, Hoskinson said strong ecosystems have the capacity to evolve, adapt, and rebuild, regardless of where the token price sits at any given moment. His comments come as ADA trades well below prior highs, with the token having fallen sharply from its all-time high.
Leios Testnet Imminent
The most immediate catalyst on the roadmap is Ouroboros Leios, Cardano's next-generation consensus upgrade. The Leios testnet is scheduled to launch on June 23, 2026, marking the first live test of the protocol. The new protocol is designed to significantly increase Cardano's transaction capacity through an innovative pipeline for block production, and development has already surpassed 5,700 technical updates and 705,000 lines of code.
Leios targets a 10x to 65x increase in base-layer throughput, moving the network from its current roughly 800,000 transactions per month toward 27 million, and targeting over 1,000 transactions per second. Input Output Global has submitted a treasury proposal for 27.7 million ADA to mature Leios from a testnet prototype into a mainnet-ready release candidate by late 2026. That proposal was approved by 84% of DReps, unlocking the funding to support network throughput and long-term scalability.
Midnight Adds a Privacy Layer
Beyond Leios, Hoskinson pointed to Midnight as an example of how Cardano's ecosystem is expanding beyond traditional crypto narratives. Midnight launched its federated mainnet on March 31, 2026, bringing programmable privacy to the Cardano ecosystem, with Google, Vodafone, and an undisclosed Fortune 500 company involved as node operators.
Midnight is a fourth-generation privacy-focused blockchain and the first partner chain connected to the Cardano ecosystem, combining zero-knowledge proofs, a dual-ledger architecture, and selective disclosure so applications can keep sensitive data confidential without sacrificing verification. Hoskinson has been clear that Midnight is not an ADA replacement, but a privacy extension designed to strengthen Cardano's ecosystem.
Taken together, the Leios upgrade and the Midnight network represent the clearest picture yet of what Hoskinson means when he talks about reinvention. Whether that vision translates into a sustained recovery for $ADA will depend on execution in the months ahead.
