Circle Internet Group has successfully negotiated a landmark agreement to feature its USDC stablecoin logo prominently on Chelsea FC’s match kits, debuting this Sunday when the Blues welcome Brighton to Stamford Bridge for their inaugural home fixture of the 2026/27 Premier League season.
At market close prior to the announcement, Circle’s stock (CRCL) stood at $94.24.
Circle Internet Group, CRCL
This partnership establishes Circle as the inaugural cryptocurrency financial services firm to secure a principal shirt sponsorship position with any Premier League club. Previous cryptocurrency arrangements in England’s top flight have been limited to sleeve advertising. OKX currently appears on Manchester City’s sleeves, while Kraken features on Tottenham Hotspur’s kit sleeves.
Chelsea’s front-of-shirt position has remained vacant for three consecutive years. Club leadership had been actively pursuing a suitable partner to fill this premium advertising space.
Reports indicated that Chelsea was seeking £65 million ($88.3 million) per season for this prime real estate. Neither Chelsea nor Circle have publicly disclosed the exact financial arrangements. As a reference point, OKX’s Manchester City sleeve partnership was reportedly valued at $70 million annually when signed in 2023.
Historic Premier League Milestone
The USDC branding will be displayed on uniforms for the Men’s team, Women’s squad, and Academy players. With Chelsea Women relocating to Stamford Bridge this season, the stablecoin’s visibility across the club will be substantial.
Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire positioned the collaboration as an organic alignment. “We built USDC on the belief that money should work seamlessly for everyone everywhere, the way the internet does,” he stated.
Chelsea President Jason Gannon described the partnership as advancing “football’s digital evolution.”
Regulatory Approval Already Secured
A critical factor facilitating this partnership’s smooth execution: Circle has maintained authorization from the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) via an e-money license obtained in 2016.
This authorization carries significant weight following the FCA’s June warning to Premier League clubs regarding partnerships with unauthorized cryptocurrency entities, cautioning that such arrangements could violate financial promotion regulations.
Circle meets these regulatory standards, positioning it as a compliant partner for Chelsea compared to numerous other cryptocurrency companies that lack similar authorization.
USDC ranks as the second-largest stablecoin globally by market capitalization. The debut of the new sponsored kit occurs this Sunday when Chelsea faces Brighton at Stamford Bridge.
