The U.S. Senate reconvened Monday with a full week ahead before its August recess. The CLARITY Act is on the Senate Legislative Calendar and eligible for a floor vote, but it has not been scheduled.
Crypto commentator Ted (@TedPillows) brought the situation to his followers on X. August 10 marks the start of the Senate’s state work period. August 7 is the final scheduled workday before senators leave Washington.
Ted noted that if Senate leadership files a cloture motion Wednesday, the earliest a procedural vote could occur is Friday. That timeline leaves almost no room for debate before recess, and Senators would have to expedite the vote through a unanimous consent agreement or another shortcut.
The Bill’s Current Status
The CLARITY Act passed the House in 2025. The Senate Banking Committee advanced it on May 14, 2026, and it has been on the Senate calendar since June 1. The bill needs 60 votes to pass. That requires bipartisan support.
Several Democratic senators have conditioned their floor votes on stronger ethics language addressing government officials’ financial ties to the crypto industry. No senator has publicly confirmed movement on that issue. Majority Leader Thune had previously stated the bill would receive a vote before recess. That outcome now appears uncertain.
Ted engaged directly with community members reacting to the delay. One user called the lack of movement proof of insufficient support for the bill. Ted countered that stance, suggesting it instead shows a lack of urgency. The bill already has 51 votes, and 7 to 10 Democrats have shown support, proving that many Senators support it.
Another user noted that legislative calendars are fluid and a vote can be scheduled anytime before the window closes. Ted agreed, stating, “nothing’s final until it’s actually final.”
What Comes Next?
The Senate has a few days left to act before the recess. Ted highlighted that unless Senate leaders speed up the process through a unanimous consent agreement or another procedural shortcut, the window to advance the CLARITY Act is closing fast.
Politics rarely follows a clean timeline, though. Votes get secured at the final hour. The XRP community has been watching this bill since the beginning. Senator Lummis has closed the window on negotiations and believes the bill is ready. It is on the calendar, and the pressure is real. Ted believes anything can happen, and a lot can happen in a few days.
