Coinbase, one of the largest US-based cryptocurrency exchanges, has clarified that it was not directly affected by a data breach, responding to user concerns circulating on social media about customer data security.

Coinbase addresses customer data concerns

The company stated that customer information was not compromised through its own systems. Instead, Coinbase attributed a recent data exposure incident to Amplitude, a third-party analytics vendor. According to Coinbase Support on X, “Coinbase has not had a data breach.”

Coinbase Support emphasized that the incident stemmed from a third-party vendor and not from Coinbase’s own security infrastructure, further stating that there is no evidence of unauthorized access to Coinbase systems or customer funds.

Amplitude reported a security event that affected only a subset of Coinbase customer contact information. The incident also impacted other clients of Amplitude. Coinbase emphasized that its own infrastructure was not breached and that customer funds remain secure.

Mini dictionary: Amplitude is a company that provides analytics and data tools for businesses to understand user behavior and product usage. In this context, Amplitude served as a third-party analytics service to Coinbase.

Coinbase explained that, as part of its regulatory obligations, it is contacting customers whose information may have been affected. The company also said it is communicating with relevant regulatory bodies about the Amplitude incident.

Security advice for affected users

While the leak did not affect Coinbase’s own systems, experts warn that exposed contact details could be exploited for phishing or social engineering. Hackers could send convincing scam messages, pretending to represent Coinbase support, in an attempt to deceive users or obtain sensitive information.

Users are advised to disregard unsolicited messages related to account security, avoid clicking on suspicious links, refrain from sharing passwords or two-factor authentication codes, and use only official methods to access Coinbase accounts.

Coinbase recommends that users remain cautious about unexpected communications and confirms that its security systems and customer funds are unaffected, despite the vendor being compromised.

New asset listings and trading suspension

Coinbase also announced that Axis Robotics (AXIS), Stable (STABLE), and Ritual (RITUAL) are now available for trading on the platform. Customers can buy, sell, convert, send, receive, or store these assets using both the Coinbase platform and mobile app.

As part of its ongoing asset review, Coinbase determined that Ampleforth Governance Token (FORTH) will be removed from trading on November 23, 2026 at 2 PM Eastern Time. Trading suspension covers Coinbase’s Simple and Advanced Trade platforms, Coinbase Exchange, and Coinbase Prime, reflecting the company’s commitment to ensuring listed assets meet rigorous compliance standards.
