- Coinbase secured UK investment authorization, enabling equities and derivatives trading while strengthening its regulated financial services offering for British customers.
- Institutional traders will access crypto, equity, and commodity derivatives, while retail investors gain equity trading through Coinbase’s expanding platform.
- Coinbase plans to add tokenized real-world assets as the UK advances crypto regulations, reinforcing its long-term unified finance strategy.
Coinbase has secured a UK investment services authorization, allowing the cryptocurrency exchange to expand into equities and derivatives trading. According to Coinbase UK CEO Keith Grose, the approval represents the company’s biggest product expansion in the country since it entered the British market.
The authorization allows Coinbase to move beyond cryptocurrency services by bringing traditional financial products onto the same platform. It also strengthens the company’s regulatory position as the UK prepares to introduce its full digital asset framework in 2027.
Besides broadening its services, Coinbase plans to give customers access to equities, crypto derivatives, and commodity perpetual futures through a single account. The company said the move reflects its strategy of combining traditional financial products with digital assets under one platform.
Additionally, the authorization complements Coinbase’s existing UK e-money license and crypto registration. As a result, the exchange now operates under one of the country’s most comprehensive regulatory structures for digital asset businesses.

Coinbase Expands Investment Products for UK Customers
According to Grose, institutional and advanced traders will gain access to crypto, equity, and commodity perpetual futures. Meanwhile, retail investors will be able to trade equities through Coinbase for the first time in the UK. Moreover, the company described the authorization as the largest expansion of its UK product suite since launching operations there. Coinbase expects the broader offering to reduce the need for investors to manage separate banking, brokerage, savings, and crypto platforms.
The company also noted that its recently launched savings and borrowing products helped build the foundation for this expansion. Additionally, it plans to introduce tokenized real-world assets as part of its broader financial services strategy. Coinbase said the new authorization supports its goal of offering payments, savings, borrowing, investing, and cryptocurrency trading through one platform. Consequently, UK customers will have access to a wider range of regulated financial products from a single account.
According to the company, research from the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority shows that about seven million UK adults already own cryptocurrency. It also noted that many people who do not currently hold digital assets would be more likely to participate under a clear regulatory framework. Furthermore, Coinbase said the authorization allows customers to access these investment products before the UK’s full cryptocurrency regulatory regime begins in October 2027. The company believes this will encourage greater participation from both experienced investors and newcomers.
UK Regulatory Framework Supports Coinbase’s Expansion
Coinbase said it chose to deepen its presence in the UK because of the government’s approach to digital finance regulation. The company added that clear regulatory standards help strengthen confidence among financial institutions and retail investors while supporting innovation across the sector.
Coinbase’s latest authorization broadens its UK operations beyond cryptocurrency by adding traditional investment products to its platform. The expansion also reflects the company’s strategy of bringing digital assets and conventional financial services together under a regulated environment.
