Key Insights:

  • Coinbase stock faces pressure after Q3 revenue drops 35% to $1.22 billion
  • Net income rises 66% to $719 million, ending three consecutive quarters of losses.
  • Prediction markets exceed $200 million in annualized revenue as USDC holdings hit $22 billion.

Coinbase stock came under pressure after the company reported a 35% year-over-year decline in Q3 revenue to $1.22 billion. However, net income climbed to $719 million, while prediction markets and USDC holdings reached new highs.

Coinbase Stock Faces Pressure Despite $719 Million Q3 Profit

Coinbase stock came under pressure after the company reported lower revenue for the third quarter of 2026. Revenue fell 35% year over year to $1.22 billion, raising questions about the company’s performance during a difficult crypto market.

However, the earnings report also showed a major change in its financial position. Coinbase recorded net income of $719 million, marking a 66% increase from the previous year. The result ended three consecutive quarters of losses.

Earnings per share reached $2.51, although the reported profit came largely from unrealized gains on the company’s crypto holdings. These gains helped lift the headline result, but they did not fully reflect the strength of its operating performance.

Adjusted net income was $78 million, reflecting a wide gap between the reported profit and the adjusted earnings. The stock market response remained cautious. Coinbase shares closed at $160.59 on October 29. However, following the earnings release, the stock fell 6.31% in pre-market trading to $150.45.

During the regular session, COIN opened at $157.62 and reached a high of $163.60. Its lowest price was $157.61, while its market capitalization stood at $42.37 billion.

Coinbase holds a 52-week range of $136.89 to $361.40. Against its daily average volume of 8.30 million shares, early pre-market activity recorded 453,350 shares traded.

Prediction Markets and USDC Provide a Different Growth Picture

Despite the revenue decline, Coinbase recorded strong growth across several products. Prediction markets emerged as one of the biggest highlights, generating more than $200 million in annualized revenue during Q3.

The business has recorded quarterly compound growth of 82% since its launch. Coinbase also reported more than 60% quarter-over-quarter growth in daily prediction market traders.

This performance makes prediction markets an important part of the company’s expanding business. It also shows that Coinbase is attracting activity beyond its traditional cryptocurrency trading services.

Coinbase also reported that average USDC holdings across its products rose to a record $22 billion. This was the 14th time in a row that the company recorded a new high in average USDC balances.

Notably, the company also made $570 million from subscriptions and services, almost half of its total revenue for the quarter. The figures offer another side to the Coinbase stock story. Although trading revenue weakened, the company continued to expand businesses that do not depend entirely on cryptocurrency buying and selling.

Coinbase also reported that its crypto trading market share reached 10.7%. This marked its fourth consecutive quarter of market share gains, with its share nearly doubling compared with the same period last year.

Armstrong Sets Out Coinbase’s Plans for Crypto and AI

Following the earnings release, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong outlined the company’s wider plans for the financial services industry. He pointed to cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence as two major technologies changing how financial services operate.

According to Armstrong, stablecoins can move money across borders quickly and at low cost. Tokenization can also make different assets available for ownership, while onchain markets allow people to trade around the clock.

He believes artificial intelligence will change how people interact with financial services. AI agents could research options, make decisions, complete transactions, and handle payments for individuals and businesses.

Coinbase wants to bring these developments together through what Armstrong describes as an everything exchange. The platform aims to combine trading, payments, savings, and borrowing into a single financial account.

Coinbase President Emilie Choi supported this direction, saying the company used the bear market to build across several products. These include cryptocurrency, equities, prediction markets, derivatives, payments, and custody.

For investors watching COIN’s stock price, the latest results present two distinct signals. Revenue remains under pressure, and adjusted net income is considerably lower than reported net income.

However, prediction markets, USDC holdings, and trading market share are showing growth. Whether these businesses can support stronger revenue in coming quarters remains an important question for Coinbase.
